Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some individuals argue that theatres and cinemas have lesser worth since the digitilization took place as everyone have access to all sort of entertainment online while others argue that theatres and cinemas still have significance financially and traditionally. Of course, the digital age have changed the means of entertainment making it more feasible and comfortable to get entertained but it can not overshadow the value of theatres and cinemas.

The digitalization era have benefitted people by giving global access of multiple sources of entertainment that save time. For instance, a person want to watch a movie based on different cultures so he will comfortably sit on a sofa, play it either on an entertainment app like Netflix or on pirated website that are most instant solutions to watch a movie. Furthermore, the digitilzation have provided the opportunity to save funds as entertainment is now free of cost. For example, a person might want to relax and watch comedy shows to get in a better mood. He will simply open apps like Instagram and Facebook to watch reels that are hilarious to lighten up his mood.

In contrast, theatres and cinemas have a unique level of experience that is unmatchable at any other place and many individuals from different ethnicities visit distinguish regions just to enjoy distinctive experiences that promotes local culture and supports the economic system. Suppose, Europeans travel to India and buy tickets to watch their cultural shows live to learn their traditions that improves the economy of India and helps in promoting the core values of their culture.

I am partially convinced that the online presence of platforms have opened doors to free and easily accessible entertainment impacting the theatres and cinemas but it can not affect their real values.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views on the relevance of theatres and cinemas in the digital age and providing a clear, personal opinion. The writer presents relevant ideas, such as the convenience and zero cost of online streaming platforms, alongside the unique cultural and economic benefits of visiting physical venues. While some of the supporting explanations tend to generalise or rely on basic examples, the position is maintained throughout the essay and the main arguments are sufficiently extended, aligning well with the Band 6.5 or solid Band 6 descriptors. To reach a higher band, the ideas would need more sophisticated development and deeper analytical support.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph-by-paragraph structure that moves logically from an introduction to arguments in favour of digital streaming, counter-arguments regarding physical cinemas, and a concluding opinion. Cohesive devices are employed to connect ideas, such as 'In contrast' and 'Furthermore', although referencing and transitions can occasionally feel mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct themes. However, minor organizational roughness and repetitive phrasing prevent the response from achieving a higher coherence score. Overall, the logical progression is clear and easy to follow throughout the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'digitilization', 'ethnicities', and 'sustainable' contexts. However, there are notable word-choice and spelling inaccuracies throughout the text, including repeated misspellings like 'digitilization' and 'digitilzation', as well as awkward phrasing such as 'get entertained' and 'distinguish regions'. While these lexical errors occur frequently enough to restrict the band score, they rarely impede the overall communication of ideas. To improve, the student should focus on precise word formation, correct spelling of key terms, and more natural collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over multi-clause structures like concessive and conditional elements. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and agreement issues, such as 'everyone have access', 'the digital age have changed', 'a person want', and 'the digitilzation have provided'. These errors in subject-verb agreement and tense consistency persist throughout the essay. Although the meaning remains understandable and communication is not severely impeded, the high frequency of basic grammatical slips places this response firmly within the Band 5.5 or Band 6 threshold for grammatical accuracy.
