Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some individuals think that theatres and cinemas have no such importance left, as public are watching all kind of cinema stuff online. While, other believe that they are still crucial from economical and cultural perspectives. In my view, cinemas and theatres are still relavent in our society because they are the main source of cultural stage shows, which tend people to purchase tickets and also provide jobs.

People are more keen on using online platforms such as Netflix and Amazon, for watching movies and series, rather than going to a physical place for watching a movie. This is because, these platforms are providing high quality content with just a minimal overhead of monthly subscription. It saves people travel time and they can watch anytime anywhere. As a result, more people are prefering to watch entertaining stuff online. For instance, there is a person, who is jobian and don't have much time, will likely to watch serials online. instead of going for cinema experience.

On the flip side, there are people, who argue that cinemas and theatres are still important in our society both economically and culturally. that is because, they have stage shows, which are quit famous for highlithing the different perspective of a society such as old local stories, their heritage, customs, rituals and cultural side. Moreover, they are also a source of bread and butter for many artists. For example, stage shows based on famous old novel are more appealing to people and people with their families tend to attend such shows. I believe that cinemas and theatres are very imprtant sector of our community, because these are the great source of entertainment with feeling of nostalgia. Along with that, they are also creating jobs and attract huge number of people to attend them.

In conclusion, some people argue that in this digital age, theatres and cinemas are no longer used by people to get entertained. On the contrary, people feel that they are still relevant from both economically and culturally. Although, online platforms are providing so much ease to people, I think that theatres and cinemas are important, as they are creating jobs and showing cultural side of our society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—the decline of theatres and cinemas due to online streaming, and their continued economic and cultural importance—and provides a clear personal opinion. The writer establishes a position in the introduction and reiterates it throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive in places. For instance, the argument regarding online streaming relies on general points without deep elaboration, and the example provided ("there is a person, who is jobian") is imprecise. To reach a higher band, the ideas need to be more fully extended with more sophisticated examples and deeper analysis of both the economic and cultural impacts.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay has a clear overall arrangement with a four-paragraph structure that follows a logical layout: introduction, view one, view two, and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to signal transitions, such as "While, other believe", "On the flip side", and "In conclusion". However, there are instances where cohesion is mechanical or faulty, such as sentence fragments and awkward punctuation (e.g., starting a sentence with lowercase or isolating clauses incorrectly like "that is because, they have stage shows..." and "For example, there is a person..."). Paragraphing is generally appropriate, but logical progression within paragraphs is occasionally disrupted by grammatical inaccuracies and awkward phrasing.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common terms such as "perspective", "heritage", "customs", "rituals", and "nostalgia". However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word formation throughout the text. Examples include "public are watching all kind of cinema stuff", "relavent", "prefering to watch entertaining stuff", "jobian" (instead of working professional), "quit famous" (quite), "highlithing", and "imprtant". These errors do not completely impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score to a Band 5.5 or 6.0, reflecting a mix of appropriate vocabulary and frequent lexical slips.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional and relative clauses. However, control over grammar and punctuation is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in verb tense, article usage, word order, and punctuation, such as "Some individuals think that theatres and cinemas have no such importance left, as public are watching...", "While, other believe", and comma splices or fragmented sentences like "that is because, they have stage shows, which are quit famous for highlithing the different perspective...". While the meaning remains generally clear, the high frequency of grammatical and punctuation errors prevents the response from achieving a higher band.
