Student answer (Band 5.5)

In today's world, many individuals think that online platforms provide all the entertainment they want so they would rather not go to theaters and cinemas, while others believe that theatres and cinemas both are crucial for economy and culture. In my view, I completely agree with the statement because it enhance social interactions between people.

Although, online platforms is convenient for watching movies, series and other contents, cinemas and theatres also play significant roles. Firstly, every year directors are release a number of movies in cinema halls and theatres in many countries in world , which profits a huge sum of money. And these money contributes to global economy. For example, India have a number of movie production states like, Bollywood, Tollywood and Malayalam films industries etc. and these has been producing films since over decades in almost every country in the world. Many people watch these different cultures movies and also discover a variety of cultures. Furthermore, in cinema people can go to spend their weekend with their families and friends, which creates social bonding between them.

There is a number of OTT platforms to watch movies and series but that doesn't means theatres and cinemas should be shut down. Because, these are very profitable place and also employ's a lot of people. Thus, if people stop going to cinema theatres many people can be loses their jobs and many theatres will be abandoned. Another point is that, online platforms has some piracy concerns, such as if a director produce his movie in a OTT platform many hackers hack their data while that movie is launching. That's why many people stop purchasing OTT subscriptions and wait for third party websites to watch movies and series. As a results, many producers and directors experience a financial deficit.

In conclusion, people have conflict perspective between online platforms and theatres. In my opinion, I believe cinemas and theatres both are still important because it reduce social isolation between people and contributes to the economy and increase cultural exchange.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The student addresses both views presented in the prompt and provides a personal opinion, satisfying the core requirements of Task 2. In the introduction and conclusion, the writer states that they agree cinemas and theatres remain important because they enhance social interaction, reduce social isolation, and contribute to the economy and culture. However, the position stated in the introduction ("I completely agree with the statement because it enhance social interactions") is slightly contradictory to the prompt's two-sided view structure, and the body paragraphs tend to over-generalise. For instance, the economic points about India's film industries are relevant, but the argument regarding online piracy and hackers stealing data during movie launches is somewhat underdeveloped and unconvincing. Ideas are presented and supported with examples, placing this response firmly in the Band 6 territory.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure consisting of an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a discernible focus. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. The writer uses basic cohesive markers such as 'Although', 'Firstly', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion', but referencing and linking within paragraphs can be awkward, as seen in sentences like 'And these money contributes to global economy' and 'As a results'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, but the logical progression between sentences occasionally falters due to abrupt shifts in ideas, such as moving directly from employment to piracy concerns within the same body paragraph.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'digital age', 'global economy', 'cultural exchange', and 'financial deficit'. However, there are notable word choice and collocation errors throughout the text, such as 'conflict perspective' instead of 'conflicting perspectives', 'directors are release' instead of 'directors release', and 'employ's a lot of people' instead of 'employs'. Spelling errors like 'results' instead of 'result' also appear. While less common items are attempted, inaccuracies in word formation and collocation prevent the response from achieving a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilising conjunctions like 'although' and 'because' to connect clauses. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in verb tense and agreement, such as 'it enhance' instead of 'it enhances', 'online platforms is' instead of 'online platforms are', 'India have' instead of 'India has', 'these has been producing' instead of 'these have been producing', and 'people can be loses' instead of 'people can lose'. Punctuation and article usage also show frequent lapses. These errors occasionally cause slight strain for the reader, though they do not completely impede overall communication.
