Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views (digital entertainment versus traditional theatres and cinemas) and providing a clear personal opinion. Ideas are presented and supported with examples, such as mentioning K-dramas and local business growth. However, some arguments lack full extension and suffer from repetition and sweeping generalisations, which places the response securely in the Band 6 category. The overall position is clear throughout, but the development of ideas is sometimes constrained by language limitations and a lack of precise detail.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into a clear introduction, two body paragraphs representing opposing views, and a conclusion. There is a logical overall arrangement following a standard discursive format. However, paragraphing and internal cohesion are frequently faulty and mechanical. The writer overuses phrases like 'For instant' and struggles with appropriate referencing and transitional phrases. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or awkward, leading to a choppy flow in places. Consequently, the performance aligns best with Band 5.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The lexical range is limited and frequently repetitive, with frequent word-choice errors that stem from inaccurate translation or poor collocation (e.g., 'everytime' instead of 'all the time', 'went out from home', 'encouragement of traditional'). The student attempts less common vocabulary such as 'reowned' (renowned) and 'expansion', but these attempts are marred by spelling and morphological errors. While meaning is generally conveyed, the high frequency of lexical slips prevents the response from achieving a Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The essay exhibits a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple or poorly linked compound-complex sentences. There are frequent, persistent errors in basic grammar, including tense consistency, article omission, missing prepositions, and subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'many people invested their each and everytime', 'theatres and movie is still crucial', 'while we watching k-drama we used to saw'). Punctuation is also problematic, with spaces frequently misplaced before commas and periods. These errors cause noticeable difficulty for the reader and reflect Band 4 characteristics.
