Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—that theatres are no longer important due to online alternatives, and that they remain economically and culturally significant—while also including a personal opinion. The student attempts to present ideas about subscription costs, rental fees, and the social experience of going to the theatre. However, the development of these ideas is frequently hindered by lack of clarity and convoluted explanations, particularly in the second paragraph regarding online movie rental pricing. The position is stated but becomes somewhat muddled during the elaboration. When evaluated against the band descriptors, the task is addressed, but the limitations in idea development and clarity place this performance at Band 5.5.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay is divided into four paragraphs, showing an attempt at a standard essay structure with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the overall progression of ideas is frequently disrupted by run-on sentences and poor cohesive ties. For example, sentences in the second paragraph string multiple clauses together without proper punctuation or conjunctions, such as 'For example, audiance want to watch a new flim released in Amazon prime application with subcription it would be waste of money to watch because...'. Transitional markers like 'Furthermore' and 'Morever' are used, but referencing is often unclear, and paragraph internal cohesion is weak. This corresponds to a Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student uses a limited and repetitive range of vocabulary with frequent spelling errors ('flims', 'enconomically', 'audiance', 'affort', 'additonally', 'telivision', 'engagable'). While some topic-related vocabulary is attempted (such as 'subscription', 'entertainment', 'platforms'), word choice and collocation are frequently awkward or incorrect, as seen in phrases like 'paid and unpaid charges' or 'grow every side person'. These lexical inadequacies and spelling mistakes cause strain for the reader and impede the natural flow of the text. Based on these characteristics, the lexical resource is reflective of Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. Most sentences are long, poorly punctuated run-on constructions containing multiple clauses incorrectly joined by commas rather than full stops or appropriate subordinating conjunctions. There are persistent errors in subject-verb agreement ('audiance want', 'movie would be charges'), tense consistency, and article usage. Complex structures are attempted, but they are frequently faulty and obscure the meaning of the sentences. Because the errors are frequent and regularly cause difficulty for the reader, this performance meets the criteria for Band 5.0.
