Student answer (Band 5.0)

in the modern world, where technology has evolved significantly, people can watch all the movies and dramas they interest in from online sources such as netflix, hotstar etc, thats mainly why many people believe cinemas and theathres are no longer significant, others argue that they are still impactful economically and culturally.

on the one hand, due to technological advancements many individuals are using mobile application to watch movies, as they are more convinient and cost effective. In these apps people can play and pause a movie number of times and top of that most of them are free of cost. which directs individuals interest from cinemas. For instance, a whole family can enjoy "the paradise" movie from hotstar for free and they can wait for any members if they are late, whereas in theatres film timings are fixed and ticket prices has surges recently. therefore, it is not only saving money but also provides convenience.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response attempts to discuss both views regarding the importance of cinemas and theatres versus online streaming, but the overall task is severely compromised by word count and abrupt ending. As noted, the length requirement of at least 250 words is not met, with the response standing at only 206 words. Furthermore, the final paragraph cuts off mid-sentence (e.g., 'especially yrf which'), leaving the student's own opinion and the conclusion entirely underdeveloped. While the introduction briefly touches upon both sides and the body paragraphs offer some relevant ideas such as convenience and economic impact, the incomplete nature of the essay and failure to meet the minimum length restriction pull the task achievement score down into the lower bands.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay displays some structural organisation with standard transitional markers such as 'on the one hand' and 'on the other hand'. However, paragraphing is irregular, and the text ends abruptly without a conclusion. Cohesive devices are occasionally used mechanically or inaccurately, and punctuation faults disrupt the flow. For instance, run-on sentences and missing capitalisation (e.g., starting sentences with lowercase letters like 'in the modern world' and 'on the one hand') hinder logical progression. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the lack of a proper closing paragraph prevents the response from achieving a coherent overall arrangement throughout.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The lexical resource demonstrates a limited but minimally adequate range for discussing a general topic. The student attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'technological advancements', 'convinient', and 'collaborated', but these are accompanied by spelling errors ('convinient', 'bussiness', 'generates considerable amount of profits foand') and awkward word choices ('ticket prices has surges'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey basic ideas about online streaming and theatre business, noticeable errors in word formation and collocation cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the score from reaching a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and subordinate structures. However, grammatical accuracy is weak throughout the text. There are numerous errors in punctuation and capitalization, such as missing capital letters at the beginnings of sentences and after full stops, as well as comma splices. Furthermore, subject-verb agreement issues ('ticket prices has surges') and fragments appear frequently. The final sentence is incomplete. These persistent errors restrict the range of structures that are fully under control and can cause strain for the reader.
