Student answer (Band 6.0)

As technology has been transformed human life, it effects many small scale firms. Similarly, elimination of theaters and cinema is becoming a hot topic of debate now a day. A small portion of people argued to demolish these entertainment sources because these are unnecessary. Some argued to keep these facilities to maintain the customs and traditions. In this essay, I will debate on the importance of these theaters and cinemas and why they should not be completely removed from society.

Cinemas and theaters are belongs to ancient time, where Romans build these structures to amuse the people in spare time. Moreover, these buildings served as an important source to showcase the culture. Most of the rituals belongs to any nation could be accessible through cinemas. For instance, culture of Malaysia, can be seen in the theater of Kuala Lumpor. Paintings, Craftings and dance performane in the theater give a glance of history of it.

Additionaly, these sources are not only attached with entertainment but also are economically important. A group of people connected with these firms are heavily depends on them. Not only the staff but all other small holders are earning money. For example, cafe shops, parking areas and popcorn stalls nearby any theater or cinema are earning a sufficient amount of money.

Therefore, removing these amenities can damage the economic cycle of the society. No matter, technology has become popular. These days every person has phone with him, he can enjoy all the films and documentaries on his screen. But this not mean we should reduce or elimate the cinemas completely.

In conclusion, Cinema and theaters are still important for the society to maintain the balance between the history and culture. In my opinion people should visit these bussinesses in there free time.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—that theaters are obsolete due to online entertainment and that they remain economically and culturally important—while also providing a clear personal opinion. The student's position is stated in the introduction and maintained throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas tends to be slightly limited and repetitive at times. For example, the argument regarding economic importance is supported by mentioning cafes and parking areas, but this point could have been extended further. Nevertheless, the main tasks of the prompt are covered adequately, placing the response solidly in the mid-range for this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different main ideas, such as cultural significance in the second paragraph and economic importance in the third. Cohesive devices are employed, including transition markers like 'Moreover', 'Additionally', and 'Therefore'. However, some logical progression is hindered by awkward phrasing and mechanical cohesion in places. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'Paintings, Craftings and dance performane in the theater give a glance of history of it,' where the pronoun reference is somewhat ambiguous.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'customs and traditions', 'amenities', and 'economic cycle'. However, there are notable word choice and collocation errors throughout the text, such as 'cinemas and theaters are belongs to ancient time' instead of 'belong to', 'craftings' instead of 'crafts', and 'elimate' instead of 'eliminate'. Spelling errors are also present, such as 'Lumpor' instead of 'Kuala Lumpur', 'Additionaly', and 'bussinesses'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they restrict the lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors involving verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, such as 'As technology has been transformed human life, it effects many small scale firms' (should be 'has transformed' and 'affects') and 'people should visit these bussinesses in there free time' (should be 'their'). Additionally, punctuation and article usage errors occur throughout the text. While simple sentences are generally controlled, complex structures often contain errors that require the reader to occasionally pause.
