In the digital age, people can easily watch movies and other forms of entertainment online. Therefore some people believe that theatres and cinemas are no longer necessary.

However, others think that they are still important for the economy and culture. I believe that although online entertainment is convenient, theatres and cinemas still have an important role in society.

On the one hand, online entertainment has become very popular because it is convenient and affordable. people can watch movies, dramas and other programmes at home using smartphones, computer or smart TV. they can also choose what they want to watch and do not need to travel to cinema. in addition , online platforms often provide a large variety of content at a relatively low cost. For these many reason, many people especially young people prefer watching entertainment online.

On the other hand, theatres and cinemas are still important economically and culturally. cinemas provide jobs for many people including actors, directors, technicians and other workers. They also support restaurants shopping centers and other business located near cinemas. From a cultural point of view, cinemas provide a shared experience where people can watch films together Theatres also help preserve traditional forms of performance, such as drama and live shows. These activities can help can people understand and appreciate their own culture as well as other cultures.

In conclusion, online entertainment is convenient and has changed the way people enjoy movies and other programmes. Nevertheless , theatres and cinemas continue to have economic and cultural value.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that theatres are obsolete and that they remain economically and culturally vital—while clearly stating your own position in the introduction. The ideas are relevant and supported with examples, such as job creation for 'actors, directors, technicians' and the cultural value of a 'shared experience'. However, some supporting points remain slightly general and could be extended further to achieve a higher band. For instance, the discussion on how live shows help people understand culture is somewhat brief. Nevertheless, the prompt is fully satisfied, meeting the descriptors for a Band 6.5 or 7.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. It is appropriately divided into five paragraphs: an introduction, two body paragraphs representing each side of the argument, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used effectively, with clear signposting phrases such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately. Minor mechanical issues occur, such as a missing full stop and subsequent capitalisation error in 'together Theatres', but overall, the arrangement is coherent and easy to follow, aligning well with the Band 7 descriptors.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate and generally appropriate for the task. You successfully employ topic-specific lexis such as 'digital age', 'entertainment', 'economically', 'culturally', and 'traditional forms of performance'. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, but word choice is occasionally simple or repetitive (e.g., repeating 'convenient' and 'important'). There are also a few lexical inaccuracies or omissions, such as 'can can people' in the fourth paragraph. However, communication is never impeded, and the range is sufficient to meet the Band 6.0 requirements comfortably.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional-style reasoning effectively (e.g., 'although online entertainment is convenient, theatres and cinemas still have an important role'). There are some noticeable grammatical and punctuation errors, including capitalization lapses ('people can watch movies', 'in addition , online platforms'), missing pluralisation ('computer or smart TV' instead of 'computers or smart TVs'), and a duplicated auxiliary verb ('help can people'). Despite these frequent minor slips, your sentences are generally understandable and do not impede communication, placing the response firmly at Band 6.0.
