Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some individuals contend that theatres and cinemas are became obsolete as people can access diverse leisure activities online. Others believe that theatres and cinemas are still essential both financially and culturally. This essay will discuss both aspects but I will go with the laser argument because individuals are facing hectic routine challenges and by going to these kind of recreational spaces, they can gain there strength back. Moreover, these type of areas plays a vital role in the local economy and cultural wellbeing.
Admittedly, those who emphasize that in today’s life every person has access to leisure amenities over the internet are justified in their argument. If someone don’t have the urge to go outside they can enjoy at home. Although, they can find any type of content they want to watch. Consequently they can save their time to reach the destination and money as well.
On the other hand, I will go with the second perspective, because in this struggling environment where everyone is facing challenges everyday either a corporate worker or a student. People don’t have time to spend with their loved ones. These kind of hubs bring people together and they spend quality time which they miss every day. By going to such establishments people feel more energetic and recharged. For example, in 2019 due to the lock down people were not allowed to visit such facilities. Even though they had access to everything on internet but study shows that even with everything they feel more stressed and overwhelmed.
Secondly, these kind of buildings boost the economy and culture. On one hand, they generate revenue by tickets and at same time they provide jobs to local workers. Moreover, by creating such spaces they offer an authentic platform to artists and preserve their art work. Which create a sense of community and cultural identity. For example, Opera house Sidney plays a crucial role in the economy as well as became a landmark and a tourist spot.
In conclusion, both the perspectives which talk about the need of amphitheaters and the opposite one are acceptable but in my opinion having such buildings are necessity for our good relationships and mental health. Moreover, our culture became rich and the economy boost as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The student addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that theatres/cinemas are obsolete due to online entertainment, and that they remain economically and culturally important—while clearly stating their own opinion in the introduction and conclusion. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as the mention of the 2019 lockdowns and the Sydney Opera House. However, the reasoning is occasionally somewhat simplistic or repetitive, and some arguments lean towards over-generalisation. Despite these minor limitations, the prompt is fully addressed with a clear position maintained throughout, corresponding well to Band 6.5 or a solid Band 7 descriptor.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a clear logical organisation and overall progression. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with distinct introduction, body, and concluding paragraphs, and body paragraphs are clearly demarcated by stance and supporting points. The student uses cohesive devices such as 'Admittedly', 'On the other hand', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, some referencing is slightly clunky or mechanical (e.g., 'these kind of areas', 'these kind of hubs'), and logical transitions between sentences can occasionally feel abrupt. Cohesion is functional and effective overall, matching the criteria for Band 6.5 to 7.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate and generally appropriate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms such as 'obsolete', 'recreational spaces', 'amenities', 'revenue', and 'cultural identity'. There are, however, noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'laser argument' (likely meant 'latter argument'), 'gain there strength back' (spelling of 'their'), and 'Opera house Sidney' (capitalisation/spelling). Less common vocabulary is attempted with mixed accuracy, and spelling/word-choice slips occur throughout, placing this securely at Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some ambitious structures like conditional sentences ('If someone don’t have the urge...'). However, grammatical control is inconsistent, with frequent minor and major errors present. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('theatres and cinemas are became', 'everyone is facing... either a corporate worker or a student', 'everyone they feel', 'our culture became rich'), punctuation fragments ('Which create a sense of community...'), and article errors ('on internet', 'on tickets'). While communication is not severely impeded, these persistent errors prevent the score from reaching Band 6.5.
