Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people believe that nowadays watching movies in cinemas and theatre is unimportant while others say that it still has role in ecnomical and cultural growth. Both of these views are necessary in their own place, but in my opinion the entertainment that is provided at cinema or theatres hall is very joyful than watching on internet.

Entertainment industry is one of the popular industry nowadays. Many people earn a good amount of money through it. While films that are displayed at cinemas attract a lot of crowds that instead become a way of income. They are coming in a group form for enjoyment where they eat and drink that improve the financial status of that place. Moreover, watching entertainment at theatre hall also has a cultural aspect that has been inherited from our grandparents. Therefore, this should not be fade from our lives.

On the other hand, some argues that in an era of mobile phones where one has access to all the online contents going to entertainment hubs is useless. They are of the opinion that everything is available over Netflix or other apps. As a result, one should not go to cinemas and waste their useful time their. They are more time punctual and do not want to waste their time.

As far as I am concerned, the cinemas and theatre halls are one of the best places of enjoyment that is why they are superior to online entertainment.

In conclusion, both arguements play a vital role in our lives but cinemas and theatre halls are the basic units and they should flourish more and more.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—the declining importance of cinemas due to online streaming and their ongoing economic and cultural significance—while also stating a clear personal opinion. The writer's position is maintained throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and occasionally simplistic. For instance, the economic argument touches on ticket sales and food consumption, but these points are under-developed compared to what would be expected for a higher band. The supporting examples are general rather than deeply elaborated, tending towards over-generalisation. Nevertheless, the prompt is fully satisfied in terms of covering the required components. This performance aligns well with the Band 6 descriptors, as it addresses all parts of the task with relevant, though slightly underdeveloped, ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a generally coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure, separating the introduction, the economic/cultural view, the online alternative view, the personal opinion, and the conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Moreover', 'Therefore', 'On the other hand', and 'As a result', although some transitions feel a bit mechanical. Referencing is mostly clear, though occasional clunky phrasing like 'they are more time punctual and do not want to waste their time there' slightly disrupts the flow. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct themes, fitting the Band 6 criteria where the organization is clear overall, but cohesion can occasionally be faulty or repetitive.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'entertainment industry', 'financial status', 'cultural aspect', and 'online contents'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'ecnomical' instead of economical, 'theatres hall' instead of theatre hall, and 'arguements' instead of arguments. Phrases like 'this should not be fade from our lives' and 'waste their useful time their' demonstrate inaccuracies in word formation and collocation. Because the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the message despite these errors which do not impede overall communication, this corresponds to a Band 6 score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional and subordinate clauses ('While films that are displayed at cinemas attract a lot of crowds that instead become a way of income'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors and awkward structures, including missing articles ('has role', 'in ecnomical and cultural growth'), subject-verb agreement issues ('some argues'), and preposition or pronoun misuse ('watching on internet'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but grammatical slips are recurrent. Because these errors do not severely impede communication and a mix of structures is attempted, the writing fits the Band 5 to 6 range, comfortably landing at a Band 5.5 for grammatical accuracy and range.
