Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on the importance of theatres and cinemas, and provides a personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. However, the development of ideas is limited and at times unclear. For instance, the argument regarding economic impact in the third paragraph touches upon social media and job losses, but it lacks clear, extended support. The position is discernible, but the ideas tend to be repetitive and underdeveloped, fitting the Band 5 descriptor well. The task requirement for word count has been met successfully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay has a discernible organizational structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, satisfying basic progression. However, cohesive devices are frequently mechanical, inaccurate, or repetitive, such as the overuse of 'To initiate with', 'Moreover', and 'Secondly'. Paragraphing is attempted, but paragraph boundaries and internal links do not always connect ideas smoothly. Referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly with pronouns and ambiguous phrases like 'Remainings argue'. These features place the response firmly at Band 5 for coherence and cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'electronic era' and 'economically and culturally', but there are noticeable errors in word choice, morphology, and collocation throughout the text, including 'Few individual say', 'no much important', 'movie hub', and 'cheapiest method'. Spelling and word-formation errors, such as 'opportuinty', 'wathching', 'Finaly', and 'elseware', are frequent and occasionally cause slight difficulty for the reader, aligning with a Band 5 score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty. There are persistent grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('Few individual say', 'folks also have chance'), missing articles ('watch live in the movie hub'), and incorrect prepositional usage ('watching on mobile phone'). Although the meaning can generally be deciphered, the high density of errors places the grammar firmly at a Band 5 level.
