Student answer (Band 6.5)
In the modern era, some think that theatres and cinemas are less important because individuals can stream on online such as youtube, netflix or other platforms while others argue that cinemas and theatres still have importance globally and traditionally. This essay will discuss both the viewpoint and provide my opinion.
On one hand, some individuals believe that theatres and cinemas are outdated because of the online platforms such as amazon prime, netflix, and other entertainment platforms. Additionally, they think that all these platforms are convenient and easy accessible and can offer all in one pack with a cheaper rate. For instance, people with wifi connection at their homes, no longer prefer to spend money watching in theatres and cinemas. Therefore, people prefer watching at their own homes because they are of the view that cinemas are becoming increasingly redundant and online platforms can save their time and fuel.
On the other hand, others argue that theatres and cinemas are relevant because they can provide profound impact on movies and shows such as its audio and visuals can make significant difference compared to television. Furthermore, on the other side theatres and cinemas foster employment opportunities to unemployed individuals. For instance, there are large number of people are working as a sweeper, waiters and with other responsibilities. Thus, theatres and cinemas are not only serves as a entertainment but also provide employment opportunities for a large number of people.
In conclusion, although theatres and cinemas are less relevant with the rise of online platforms , I believe theatres and cinemas are worthy because it can offer valuable education and cultural experiences.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—the decline of theatres in the digital age versus their ongoing economic and cultural relevance—and clearly states the writer's own opinion in the conclusion. Ideas are relevant, such as the convenience of online streaming platforms versus the superior audio-visual experience and employment opportunities provided by physical cinemas. However, some of these ideas lack full extension and depth. For instance, the economic argument regarding employment is introduced with examples like sweepers and waiters, but the reasoning remains somewhat basic. Overall, the prompt is successfully navigated and all requirements of the task type are met appropriately, leading to a solid band score.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information is divided into distinct paragraphs: an introduction, two body paragraphs exploring opposing views, and a concluding summary. Cohesive devices are employed to guide the reader, such as 'On one hand,' 'On the other hand,' 'For instance,' and 'In conclusion.' However, some cohesion is slightly mechanical or repetitive, and referencing can occasionally feel rigid. Paragraphing is used appropriately and sufficiently to structure the overall argument. The flow of ideas is generally smooth, ensuring that the reader can easily follow the progression from the introductory stance to the final verdict, matching the descriptor requirements for this band level well.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms related to the prompt such as 'digital age,' 'entertainment platforms,' 'redundant,' and 'employment opportunities.' There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, though some word choices and collocations feel slightly unnatural, such as 'at a cheaper rate' instead of 'at a lower cost' or 'easy accessible' instead of 'easily accessible.' Spelling and word-formation errors are minor and do not impede communication, as seen in minor awkward phrasings like 'provide profound impact on movies.' The lexical range is sufficient for the writer to communicate their ideas clearly, but lacks the precision and flexibility characteristic of higher band scores.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, demonstrating an ability to use dependent clauses and transition markers effectively. Examples include 'In the modern era, some think that theatres and cinemas are less important because individuals can stream on online...' However, there are noticeable grammatical inaccuracies, such as missing prepositions or incorrect word forms ('stream on online' instead of 'stream online', 'are not only serves' instead of 'do not only serve'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, though comma splices and minor structural slips occur. The errors do not impede communication, and the majority of simple sentences are accurate, placing this response comfortably within the competent band range.
