Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—that theatres and cinemas are no longer important due to online entertainment, and that they remain culturally and economically vital—while also providing a clear personal opinion. The writer's position is maintained throughout the essay. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed, relying on basic generalizations rather than deep elaboration or specific examples. For instance, the economic argument simply states that they create jobs without explaining the broader financial impact. While the prompt is adequately covered to meet the criteria, greater extension of ideas would be needed for a higher band. Overall, the task is addressed with a clear stance, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs representing opposing views, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately to separate ideas. However, cohesion is often faulty or mechanical. The writer uses basic transition markers such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'To sum up', but referencing and logical links within paragraphs are sometimes unclear, as seen in awkward transitions like 'Because of, they create many kind of job sector.' Furthermore, sentence-to-sentence progression lacks smooth connectivity in several places, which pulls the coherence down to a Band 5.5, rounded to 5.5.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, touching upon relevant themes such as 'digital age', 'economically', 'culturally', and 'platforms'. However, there are numerous inappropriate word choices and spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'releted' instead of related, 'Manwhile', 'nowdays', 'ammount', and 'cinemahall'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary like 'significant impact' and 'heritage', but inaccuracies in collocation and word formation are noticeable and occasionally impede communication. The lexical range is minimally adequate, fitting the Band 5 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty. There are persistent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('theatre and cinema has', 'some citizen say'), incorrect verb forms ('are no longer need', 'are need money'), and missing prepositions or articles. For example, 'In my opinion is that, nowdays theatre and cinemas are both need' exhibits structural confusion. While simple sentences are generally understandable and communication is not entirely blocked, the high frequency of basic grammatical errors places this response firmly in the Band 5 category.
