Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses both views regarding the importance of theatres and cinemas, and the student presents a clear personal opinion at the end stating that cinemas are no longer important. However, the task achievement is significantly compromised because the response is under-length, containing only 207 words against the required 250-word minimum. Furthermore, the ideas are relatively basic and lack sufficient extension or detailed support. While the student mentions economic factors and app availability, these points remain under-developed. For these reasons, the response meets the descriptors for Band 5.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay displays some basic organisation with introductory and body paragraphs, but overall progression is hindered by poor punctuation, missing spaces after commas, and abrupt sentence boundaries. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes inaccurate, as seen in phrases like 'ON the one hand many people argue' and 'Additionally another reson supporting this view this very affordable'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final conclusion is isolated into a single, very brief sentence. Referencing and logical transitions between sentences are weak, resulting in a disjointed reading experience. This aligns with Band 5 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'watcing', 'entertainments', 'cultulary', 'prespectives', 'imporatant', 'preffer', 'cenimas', 'reson', 'palce', and 'ticets'. There is a limited range of vocabulary attempted, and collocation is often awkward, such as 'secure money' or 'high picture quality film'. These noticeable errors and limited lexical range restrict the score to Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0 based on the attempt to discuss a complex topic.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, primarily consisting of simple sentences and faulty attempts at complex ones. Punctuation is poorly controlled, with numerous missing spaces, incorrect capitalisation in the middle of sentences ('ON the one hand', 'Adittional'), and run-on sentences like 'For instance, Poor people also live a better life through this.Adittional advantage is we become social through this we acn meet with their friends and family there.' Grammatical errors are frequent, including subject-verb agreement issues and missing articles, which cause frequent difficulty for the reader and place this at a Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0.
