Student answer (Band 6.0)
Few people believe that in the digital age, theatres and cinemas are no longer important, as people can watch all the entertainment they want online. I partially agree with this statement, as some people like to watch movies in theatres, and others enjoy doing that on the internet in their own comfort zone
Nowadays, everything is getting digital; similarly, entertainment platforms are available online too. People love to watch movies online in their own comfort zone. There are many apps such as Netflix and JioCinema, which provide us with various web series and movies. it is a more affordable and accessible way for people if they want to entertain themselves.
Some people still believe that the real feel of movies comes in theatres only. One of the major reasons for people to consider watching movies in the theatre is that it provides a specific, peaceful environment for you to enjoy the movie. It also has economic and cultural significance, as in the past these were the only source of entertainment, and individuals had to buy a ticket to watch movies; in return, the theatre provided a great environment to enjoy them. You can also buy snacks and drinks there according to your preference.
In conclusion, people have their own preferences for how they want to entertain themselves. Both watching movies in the theatre and online have their own pros and cons; people can do them according to their situations and circumstances,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response attempts to address all parts of the task by discussing both views on the importance of digital entertainment versus physical theatres and cinemas, while also providing a personal opinion in the introduction. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed, particularly regarding the economic and cultural significance mentioned in the prompt, which is only touched upon superficially. Furthermore, the response has a noticeable negative impact due to the word count constraint, as it contains 241 words, falling slightly short of the 250-word minimum requirement. This under-length aspect prevents the ideas from being fully explored. Consequently, the task response aligns best with Band 5.5 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a generally coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure, moving from an introduction to body paragraphs discussing online entertainment and physical theatres, and concluding with a summary. However, cohesion at the sentence level is occasionally faulty or mechanical. For instance, the transition between sentences in the second paragraph lacks smooth linking devices ('it is a more affordable...' starts with a lowercase letter). Referencing and logical progression are sometimes basic, such as the abrupt conclusion that lacks a fully synthesized final thought. Paragraphing is present and appropriate, but the overall progression of ideas could be better managed. Therefore, a Band 6.0 is appropriate for this criterion.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, incorporating terms such as 'digital age', 'entertainment platforms', 'accessible way', and 'economic and cultural significance'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and repetition, such as using 'own comfort zone' multiple times and the phrase 'real feel of movies'. While the student attempts some less common vocabulary, there are noticeable limitations and occasional inaccuracies in collocation. Spelling is generally accurate, but the overall lexical range restricts the score to a Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'Few people believe that in the digital age, theatres and cinemas are no longer important, as people can watch all the entertainment they want online.' There are several grammatical errors and punctuation issues, including a missing capital letter at the start of 'it is a more affordable...' and slight structural awkwardness in sentences like 'in the past these were the only source of entertainment...'. Despite these errors, they rarely impede overall communication, allowing the reader to follow the intended message without major difficulty. This performance fits comfortably into Band 6.0.
