Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the view that digital platforms make theaters obsolete and the counter-argument regarding their ongoing economic and cultural importance. The student also presents a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, in the second paragraph, the points regarding cost-effectiveness, lack of transport expenses, and flexibility are stated generally without concrete supporting examples. Similarly, the third paragraph touches on boosting local businesses and preserving culture, but these ideas remain underdeveloped. While a clear position is maintained throughout, extending the supporting examples would push the response into higher band levels. This performance aligns well with Band 6.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure, moving logically from an introduction to body paragraphs exploring each viewpoint, and finishing with a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as 'Furthermore', 'In addition', and 'In fact'. However, referencing and cohesion are occasionally faulty or mechanical. For example, the sentence 'Keeping in view the little reasons people do not prefer traditional venues' is awkward and lacks clear cohesive ties to the preceding sentence. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, ensuring the overall progression is discernible to the reader, matching the requirements for Band 6.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'digitalization', 'cost effective', 'flexibility', and 'employment opportunities'. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, but some word choices and collocations are slightly imprecise, such as 'persist their cultural and economic importance' (where 'retain' or 'maintain' would be more natural) and 'watching role acts'. Spelling and word choice errors are present ('dramas, movies, and television shows, by streaming online'), but these do not impede communication. The lexical range is sufficient to convey the main arguments, earning a solid Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The text displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. The student attempts complex forms, such as 'Certain people in a society think that in this era of digitalization, theaters and cinemas are no more essential because many individuals prefer to watch entertainment online...', which are generally understandable despite minor punctuation and phrasing issues. There are several grammatical errors and awkward constructions throughout, including 'there no expense on transport', 'These provide flexibility', and a run-on sentence in the conclusion ('...cost effectiveness, I strongly believe...'). While these errors are noticeable and require the reader to re-read occasionally, they rarely impede overall communication, placing the response firmly at Band 6.
