Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, there's a conception of some that in modern world, all the entertainment can be watched online neglecting the need of theatres and cinemas. Whereas remaining kept on justifying the significance of theatres and cinemas. I have a strong opinion that coin has always two sides and each side has its own significance.

Theatres and cinemas have thier own significance in terms of their cost efficiency and as well as it brings a lot of people together. This brings some old culture and rituals. For example families consider going to theares and cinemas a sort of areason to have some time together. This brings a lot of memories and a sort of experience that can only be brought by being together. Moreover, it is cost efficient as well. People pay only for that movie they want to watch. They don't need to buy a sort of package for sake of one movie. This particular activity bring some old family rituals to spend some quality time together and it also brings cost saving feature as well.

In contrast, Online platforms bring a lot of options at one place. There's aslo no need to coe out of your comfort to go and have some entertainment. For example, An individual can enjoy entertainment while just being whatever place he/she is. Multiple number of options are available, that person can enjoy anything he likes to watch. Only as ingle payment is needed and individual will be rewarded with the variety of options. This activity bring a lot of comfort. Also, it is time saving as well.

In conclusion, There are always two sides. each side has its own pros and cons . If today's world is accepting something more that doesn't mean that the other thing is not suitable. There must be another audience of that activity kept appreceating that on.Online entertainment is more watched nowadays and being more praised but theatres and conemas also have significance in their matter.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—the decline of theatres in the digital age versus their ongoing cultural and economic relevance—and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas presented, such as cost efficiency, family bonding, and the convenience of online streaming, are generally relevant and supported with explanations and examples. However, the development of ideas suffers from repetition, particularly in the second paragraph where the concepts of family rituals and cost efficiency are reiterated multiple times without adding significant new depth. The position is maintained throughout the essay, but the over-generalisation and slightly simplistic articulation of arguments place this performance solidly at Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing contrasting views, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is utilised to separate distinct arguments. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty and mechanical, with repetitive transitional phrases like 'This brings' and 'as well as' used excessively throughout the text. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun use in 'Whereas remaining kept on justifying'. While the logical progression is generally understandable, the mechanical nature of the cohesive devices and the lack of smooth transitions prevent the response from achieving a higher band, making Band 6.0 the most appropriate descriptor.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common phrases such as 'cost efficiency', 'comfort', and 'digital age'. However, there are numerous noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and spelling throughout the response, including 'thier', 'areasoon', 'coe', 'as ingle', and 'appreceating'. Phrases like 'coin has always two sides' show unnatural phrasing. Although these errors do not severely impede overall communication, they occur with enough frequency to restrict the score to Band 5.5, reflecting a limited yet minimally adequate lexical resource.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as concessive clauses ('Whereas remaining kept on justifying...') and relative clauses. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation slips, including missing articles ('in modern world', 'as ingle payment'), subject-verb agreement issues ('theatres and cinemas has'), and awkward phrasing ('There's aslo no need to coe out'). While the meaning can generally be extracted, the accumulation of errors in basic and complex structures causes noticeable difficulty for the reader and prevents the response from reaching Band 6.0.
