Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some individuals believe that theaters and cinemas are not useful now in this digital era if they can consume all type of enjoyment online, while others are in the opinion of that both of the things mentioned before are equally essential for culture and as well as the economical aspect. Both views have equally important values. I usually support second argument.
People who debate that theaters and cinemas are not in need of public anymore are partially right in their own perspective because this era is very busy in general. People don't have time for each other. Families have become so busy that they can't spend quality time with each other because every member is doing something either its a job or a small business. For example, people who are in the corporate sector usually don't have spare time to go in any theater or cinema because they spend most of the day at their workplaces. If they get home in the evening, they are tired and don't bother to put an effort for going out. So they prefer to watch any kind of amusement at the comfort of their homes like a movie, a documentary or anything of their interest.
However, there are some persons who believe that cinemas and theaters are vital factors in the development of culture and economy as well. They are right in the sense that people can interact with each other if they meet in such an event. These types of events allow different individuals to have a conversation about any topic. They can chat with an old friend. If any foreigner comes to cinemas and theaters, he can learn about one's culture. In these events, there are different kinds of food stalls which can promote small businesses which in return is beneficial for the economy. People can show their art at these functions.
In conclusion, both opinions have their own positive and negative sides. It basically depends on one's interests. Some like to interact and socialize while some prefer to stay at home and want to have fun within it.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that theaters and cinemas are no longer necessary in the digital age, and that they remain economically and culturally important—while also providing a clear personal opinion in the introduction ("I usually support second argument"). The ideas are generally relevant, but some points, such as the discussion on busy lifestyles and people interacting at events, tend to be repetitive or slightly under-developed rather than fully extended with deep insights. Examples provided, such as corporate workers lacking spare time, help support the arguments, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptor where all parts are addressed with relevant ideas, though some could be explored with greater depth and precision.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing: an introduction, a body paragraph for each view, and a brief conclusion. Logical progression is evident as the writer transitions smoothly from the first perspective to the counter-perspective using appropriate transitional markers like "However" and "In conclusion". However, cohesive devices can be somewhat mechanical, and referencing occasionally lacks precision, such as "both of the things mentioned before" or "in such an event". Paragraphs are generally unified around central topics, but the organizational flow lacks the flexibility and sophistication required for higher band levels. Overall, the structural progression meets the criteria for Band 6.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating ideas about modern lifestyles, digital entertainment, culture, and economic benefits. Words like "corporate sector", "documentary", and "interaction" demonstrate a reasonable working vocabulary. However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward collocations, such as "consume all type of enjoyment", "in the opinion of that", and "put an effort for going out". Less common lexical items are attempted but not always used naturally or with precise stylistic awareness. Spelling is generally accurate, and vocabulary errors do not impede communication, placing the response solidly at Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, using conditional and subordinate clauses such as "If they get home in the evening, they are tired..." and "People who debate that theaters and cinemas are not in need of public anymore...". There are, however, frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, including missing articles ("in any theater or cinema", "at the comfort"), preposition errors ("go in any theater"), and pronoun inconsistencies ("either its a job"). While these errors are noticeable and detract from precision, they rarely impede overall communication. The mix of structures and error frequency correspond closely to the Band 6 descriptors.
