Student answer (Band 5.0)
According to a few individual, theatres and cinemas acquire no more importance in the digital age as people can use online platforms to access any kind of entertainment they like while others believe that they are essential both in economical and cultural perspective even today.
To begin with, rapidly-growing technology enables access to multiple websites containing different kinds of entertainment such as movies. Thus, when a new movie or series gets released in the theatres or cinemas, people often get access to it beforehand in their phones or laptops and can enjoy in the comfort of their homes. As a result, the importance of watching in theatres declines significantly. For example, in a recent study of film budget in 2020, it was observed that online platfoms with around 10 lakhs increased subscriptions in one week earned more than what theatres did with only about 200 people per week.
However, controversy on the importance of theatres and cinemas in the present time is still counted.Because this adds to the economy when spectators pay to watch a movie in the big screen. Moreover this also contributes in the cultural heritage as residents of every culture come together and prefer to enjoy at the same time. Consequently, the urge to watch movie in theatres increases. For instance, people watching in movie theatres tend to enjoy more than those watching alone at their homes.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to address both views regarding the importance of theatres and cinemas in the digital age, as well as providing a personal opinion. However, the position becomes unclear towards the end due to an abrupt conclusion that remains unfinished. Furthermore, the task instructions explicitly require a minimum of 250 words, but this essay falls short at 224 words. This under-length penalty restricts the development of ideas, particularly in supporting arguments and providing fully articulated examples. The example involving film budgets and subscriptions lacks clear context and connection. Consequently, the response achieves a Band 5.0 for task achievement due to the length shortfall and limited idea development.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay demonstrates some overall organisation into standard paragraphs, including an introduction, body paragraphs, and an incomplete conclusion. Cohesive devices are attempted, such as 'To begin with', 'However', and 'In conclusion', but referencing and linking can be mechanical or confusing, such as the abrupt transition 'Because this adds to the economy'. Paragraphing is partially disrupted by the sudden termination of the text. Progression is somewhat repetitive and hindered by the incomplete nature of the final paragraph. Overall, the coherence and cohesion reflect the descriptors for Band 5.0, where organisation is present but progression is unclear and cohesive devices are inadequate or inaccurate.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for discussing entertainment and technology, including terms like 'rapidly-growing technology', 'cultural heritage', and 'spectators'. However, there are noticeable word-choice and collocation errors, such as 'theatres and cinemas acquire no more importance', 'in economical and cultural perspective', and 'online platfoms with around 10 lakhs increased subscriptions'. The use of 'lakhs' is culturally specific and less appropriate for international academic writing. Vocabulary control is limited, causing occasional strain for the reader. These features align closely with Band 5.0 for lexical resource.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some attempt at subordination and relative clauses. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('According to a few individual... acquire'), missing articles ('on the big screen'), and punctuation errors like missing spaces after commas ('movies.Thus,when'). The final sentence is incomplete, leaving a major grammatical disruption. While meaning is generally retrievable despite the errors, the density and frequency of inaccuracies place this performance firmly at Band 5.0.
