Student answer (Band 5.5)

Directing and watching movies have been a trend for over a century. People loves to binge watch shows for enjoyment purposes. Few individuals believe that in modren era, there is not much need of theatres and cinemas as the public browse lively content on internet. In contrast some says that film theatre and drama venues are quite significant in respect of financial terms and cultural prespective. I will elaborate both of thse aspects and state my own opinion.

In the existing period, every thing is available online. To begin with, there are social media platforms dedicated specially for web series, movies and films. For example, a renowned plaform-Netflix, contains almost all popular series because of this very reason people buy its monthly subscription. In addition to this, the movie venues are quite expensive and there are restrictions to bring your own food.To cite an example, Universal cinemas charge 1500 rs per ticket which people mostly think that it is not worth it.

In opposite to this, few people holds a prespective that the movie theatres and cinemas are relevent in economic and cultural terms. Firstly, it is undoubtedly true that these enterprises generate a lot of revenue and hold profound importance in contributing economic wise. forexample a latest report of Federal board of revenue shows that around 600 million rupees has been collected in the form of tax from these sectors. Secondly, it has united the people from different ethnicites, whenever a bollywood movies holds the premiere, youth and adults gather just to watch the first show and share societal bonds. eg when Alpha movie eas released, public requested to play it in large theatre with capacity of around 500 people and they enjoyed it well.

I am of the opinion that they are not that much relevant because of the social media plaforms and pirated copies of original films available in the market.

Overall, In the technologically advanced era the big screens are not required any more while some are of opinion that it holds the signidicance in the growth and societal bonding.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that theatres are obsolete due to online entertainment and that they remain economically and culturally significant—while also clearly stating the writer's own opinion in the conclusion. Ideas are introduced and supported with examples, such as mentioning Netflix and quoting ticket prices. However, some arguments remain slightly under-developed, particularly the final opinion which somewhat abruptly reiterates the anti-theatre stance without deeper extension. Overall, the response meets the core requirements of a Task 2 essay by covering all prompt elements. This performance aligns well with Band 6 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a clear overall logical organization, breaking the response down into an introduction, body paragraphs addressing each perspective, and a concluding stance. Cohesive devices are employed to signal transitions, such as 'To begin with', 'In addition to this', and 'Firstly'. However, referencing and paragraph cohesion are at times mechanical or faulty, as seen in minor awkward transitions and repetitive sentence openers. Paragraphing is utilized, though the conclusion is split into two very short, somewhat disjointed paragraphs rather than a unified summary. These features reflect a typical Band 6 performance in coherence and cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying the intended meaning regarding digital streaming versus traditional cinemas. The writer attempts some less common lexical items, such as 'renowned platform', 'enterprises', and 'ethnicities'. However, there are numerous spelling and word-choice inaccuracies throughout the text, including 'modren', 'prespective', 'forexample', 'relevent', and 'plaforms'. While these errors are noticeable and stem from basic slips or poor proofreading, they do not severely impede communication. This balance of an adequate range mixed with frequent lexical errors aligns securely with a Band 6 score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating clauses with 'because', 'whenever', and relative pronouns. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, featuring frequent errors such as subject-verb agreement issues ('People loves', 'few people holds', 'bollywood movies holds'), missing articles, and punctuation mistakes. For instance, sentences like 'In opposite to this, few people holds a prespective...' contain multiple surface-level errors. Although these mistakes rarely impede overall comprehension, they prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. The presence of frequent errors combined with a moderate range of structures warrants a Band 5.5 score.
