Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that cinemas and theatres are no longer important due to online entertainment, and that they remain economically and culturally significant. The student also attempts to provide an opinion, stating in the introduction that both entertainment hubs are not required while simultaneously acknowledging their benefits for overall growth. However, the position expressed is somewhat contradictory and confused, as the student struggles to clearly balance the two perspectives in the final synthesis. Ideas are presented, such as the convenience of apps like Netflix and the outdoor appeal of physical venues, but they remain somewhat underdeveloped and occasionally repetitive. To reach a higher band, the student needs to ensure a clearer, more consistent personal stance and extend the supporting arguments with deeper analysis rather than relying on brief generalizations.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph-by-paragraph structure that addresses the prompt's requirements. Each paragraph has a discernible focus, moving from an introduction to online platforms, physical visits, and a conclusion. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical and faulty. For instance, the use of transitions like 'Although, majority is still prefering' creates awkward sentence structures and abrupt transitions. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun use in 'Watching outside with family also help them'. Paragraphing is used adequately to separate ideas, but logical progression between paragraphs could be smoother and better supported by precise cohesive devices rather than repetitive sentence openings.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'digital landscape', 'premium features', and 'economic development'. However, there are notable word-choice errors and awkward collocations throughout the text, including 'majority of individuals believes', 'entertainement content' (spelling error), 'free acess' (spelling error), and 'Watching outside' instead of 'Going out'. Furthermore, repetition of words like 'entertainment', 'digital', and 'online' limits the lexical flexibility. While communication is not severely impeded, these frequent lexical inaccuracies and spelling slips prevent the response from achieving a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing subordinating conjunctions such as 'Whether you want to' and 'Although'. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in subject-verb agreement and article usage. Examples include 'majority of individuals believes', 'many firmly believes', 'i am completely agree', and 'cinemas and theaters plays a major role'. Additionally, punctuation and capitalization issues are present, such as the lower-case 'i' in the introduction. While simpler structures are generally understandable, attempts at more complex sentences frequently result in grammatical slips that require the reader to pause.
