Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the modern world, some individuals believe that theaters and cinemas are not having an importance like before because people can visualize all entertainment shows through online, while others argue that both are still essential for the economically and culturally. In my opinion, I believe that cinemas and theaters are important for the beliefs and nations.

From one group of people perspective, both entertainment venues are no longer significant now. This view has a large amount of reasons. One of the major reason is that nowadays, people have a tough schedule and they cannot go to the different cinemas hall and theaters to watch the movies. consequently, people can watch different shows through online by different social websites. It is very convenient for citizen and also helps in the fuel and time saving.

From others perspective, both of the screening venues( theaters and cinemas) are still important for our nations. The major reason is that new generation are connected with the traditional ways of watching movies. Another reason is that the tickets payment also helps in the growth of the economy financially. For example, the price of the one movie ticket is almost 500 pakistani rupee in the cinema halls, and in a day 500 people went to cinema for the watching movie, so the earning of movies venues are the huge amount in a day. As a result, the income of cinema hall can contribute the growth of the economy.

To sum up, some people think that theaters and cinemas having no more importance while others think that both are still crucial. From my opinion, I strongly believe in the second view.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views (online entertainment versus the economic and cultural importance of physical venues) and provides a clear personal opinion. Ideas are extended and supported, such as mentioning convenience and time-saving for online streaming, and economic contributions via ticket sales. However, there is a tendency to over-generalize, and the development could be more sophisticated. For instance, the economic example regarding ticket prices in Pakistan is somewhat basic. Overall, the response meets the requirements for Band 6.0 as it addresses all parts of the task with relevant ideas, though some parts are slightly under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus, creating a coherent overall arrangement. Transitional phrases such as 'From one group of people perspective', 'From others perspective', and 'To sum up' are utilized, although some are unnatural or mechanically applied. Referencing and cohesive devices are sometimes faulty, as seen in awkward phrasing like 'both of the screening venues( theaters and cinemas) are still important for our nations'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, but logical progression between sentences can feel disjointed at times. This fits the Band 6.0 descriptor well.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, attempting less common items such as 'significant', 'convenient', and 'contribute'. However, there are noticeable word-choice and collocation errors throughout the text, such as 'visualize all entertainment shows through online' instead of 'watch entertainment online', and 'having an importance like before'. Spelling is generally acceptable, but inappropriate word forms (e.g., 'economically and culturally' instead of 'economic and cultural') and imprecise phrasing occasionally impede smooth reading. This performance aligns with Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over sentence structure. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('theaters and cinemas are not having an importance', 'new generation are connected'), incorrect prepositions ('through online', 'went to cinema for the watching movie'), and awkward phrasing. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the writing from reaching a Band 6.0 level. Therefore, a score of 5.5 is appropriate.
