Student answer (Band 6.0)
Today's era is the time of digital media. People prioritize the use of digital platforms over conventional media, which includes theatres and cinemas. Simultaneously, conventional methods of accessing entertainment resources are still common among some people. I, personally, pay more attention to sitting at home and watching videos at my earliest convenience rather than making a plan to go out and visit any traditional theatre or cinema for amusement. In the following paragraphs, the views on both aspects are outlined.
First of all, the use of digital media at home saves a lot of time, which is utilized during visits to any cinema or theatre. People these days try to find ease instead of so much effort in everything. If someone has to watch a movie, they can easily do so without moving from one room to another. It saves time and energy and is environmentally friendly as well. For there is no use of any vehicle involved in watching a movie at home. Additionally, one does not need to purchase tickets or make arrangements for such a scenario. This makes it convenient for everyone to access their favourite movie or show. They can simply lie on their bed and watch a movie. Furthermore, if someone wants to watch a movie with his or her family, they can play a movie in a living room where they sit around and watch a movie using an LED connected to the internet. In this way, it becomes easy and more user-friendly.
Conversely, there are a few people who still value intimacy, friends' gatherings, and watching movies in a cinema or a theatre. The main reason behind this is the quality time, which they want to spend with their loved ones. For instance, colleagues from an office can plan to watch a movie together. They have to do many things associated with such plans, such as planning a day or a night, time, tickets, meals if they want to have some, and also a means of transportation. This consumes a lot of time as compared to the case presented above in contrast to it. It promotes cultural values and physical intimacy that are crucial to a few people. Economically, it takes a lot of money to execute such plans, whether they are linked to one's family, friends, or colleagues.
To sum up, I would like to add that when a person can ideally sit at a table at home, watch a show or a movie while sipping tea or having coffee is possible, then why is there a need of making so much arrangements for the same thing? This all can be done at your favourite either an office or a home or a cafe. Therefore, I am more into using digital media for watching entertainment instead of spending a lot of money, time, and energy on the same thing. One can save their energy and complete the tasks after watching a movie if something is pending on their end. Whereas, if someone visits a cinema or a theatre for such a purpose, their many pending tasks remain unattended for a longer period if digital media is not used.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views (the digital dominance making theatres obsolete versus their continued economic and cultural importance) and clearly stating the writer's personal opinion throughout. Ideas are extended and supported, such as explaining the time-saving benefits of digital media at home and the social and economic aspects of visiting a cinema. However, some arguments tend to be repetitive, particularly regarding time and energy saving, which prevents the response from reaching the highest bands. Overall, the task is well handled, presenting a clear position and relevant supporting arguments that meet the requirements thoroughly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The text demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical organization. The essay is divided into appropriate paragraphs, starting with an introduction, followed by body paragraphs discussing each viewpoint, and a concluding summary. Cohesive devices are used to guide the reader, such as 'First of all', 'Additionally', 'Conversely', and 'To sum up'. However, some referencing is slightly mechanical, and certain transitional phrases feel a bit repetitive or clunky, such as 'For there is no use of any vehicle involved' and 'as compared to the case presented above in contrast to it'. Despite these minor flaws, the progression of ideas is generally clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items and phrasal structures, such as 'conventional media', 'environmentally friendly', 'intimacy', and 'cultural values'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'paying more attention to sitting at home' (preferring to stay at home) and 'making so much arrangements' (making so many arrangements). Spelling is generally accurate, but the lexical range lacks the sophistication and precision needed to achieve a higher band descriptor, remaining functional and clear without impeding communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms. The student attempts complex structures with relative success, using conditional clauses ('If someone has to watch a movie, they can easily do so') and relative clauses. There are, however, several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings throughout the text, such as sentence fragments ('For there is no use of any vehicle involved...') and minor prepositional or agreement errors ('making so much arrangements', 'your favourite either an office or a home or a cafe'). These errors do not impede communication, but they occur with enough frequency to prevent the assignment of a higher band.
