Student answer (Band 5.5)

The modernisation has reached certain extent where you can accese movies and all the form of modern entertainment online. Some people preffer to watch all the entertainment online but some argue the traditional cinemas and theatre are still important both finantially and culturally which true untill some extent.

Nowadays, everyone has a accese to internet and a smart device on which they can consume online content at their ease of comfort. They do not have to travel to malls or theatres to watch the movies and if the idividuals reside in rular area they have to travel to big cities just to watch movies. Watching movies online also give the flexibility to manage time, there is no need to watch whole movies at once, people can watch movies at their convinient time they chose.

Watching entertainment online also gives freedom to watch movies anywhere like in public palces and at home. Furthermore, people will not have the fear of missing out as the online moveis are accesible years after they are released in the theatre. But in contrast, the traditional cinemas and thestres dilivers the ultimate experience of movies watching which is missing in online movies. The enormous screen size and the high definition dolby sound provides immersive experience which you can only get in theatres. Also enjoying movies in the crowd level ups the experience as cheering with crowd is very enjoyable thing to do.

In conclution, both online entertainments and theares have their own advantages and drawbacks but I personally preffer online entertainment as it give flexibility in time and place where I can watch movies but I still miss the immersive experience the threaters and the cinemas provide in online entertainment.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that cinemas are no longer important due to online entertainment, and that they remain economically and culturally significant. The writer also provides a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion, stating that online entertainment is preferred while acknowledging the superior experience of traditional venues. Ideas are generally relevant, such as discussing convenience, accessibility, and the immersive sensory experience of theatres. However, some ideas are a bit repetitive and lack deep development, tending towards generalisations rather than fully extended arguments. For instance, the discussion on rural areas and flexibility could be expanded with more precise examples. Overall, the response fulfills the requirements for Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used, separating the discussion of online benefits from the counter-argument about traditional cinemas. However, cohesion at the sentence level is sometimes faulty or mechanical. There are noticeable issues with referencing and linking words, such as 'But in contrast' and 'In conclution', which contain spelling errors and slightly awkward transitions. The logical flow between ideas is occasionally disrupted by abrupt shifts in topic within paragraphs. While the progression is generally understandable, the clumsy cohesive devices and occasional lack of smooth signposting place this firmly in the Band 6.0 category.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common topic-related terms such as 'immersive experience', 'accessibility', and 'high definition dolby sound'. However, there are frequent spelling errors ('accese', 'preffer', 'finantially', 'untill', 'idividuals', 'rular', 'convinient', 'moveis', 'dilivers', 'thestres', 'conclution', 'threaters') and word choice inaccuracies that detract from the writing. Collocations are sometimes awkward, such as 'crowd level ups the experience'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the central ideas, the accumulation of spelling mistakes and minor lexical slips prevents the response from achieving a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some ambition with conditional and relative clauses, such as 'if the idividuals reside in rular area they have to travel to big cities'. However, the text contains a significant number of grammatical errors and punctuation lapses, including missing articles ('The modernisation has reached certain extent', 'have a accese'), subject-verb agreement errors ('the traditional cinemas and thestres dilivers'), and missing plural markers. Despite these errors, the meaning remains comprehensible throughout, meaning communication is rarely impeded. The presence of these frequent errors alongside a basic mix of structures fits the Band 5.5 descriptor.
