Student answer (Band 6.0)
While some people argue that prevalence of theatres and cinemas has been diminished and people can watch all the entertainment on digital platforms, others believe that theatres and cinemas are still crucial for both economy and culture. Although both views have some merit, I believe that movie theatres hold paramount importance for country's economics and and culture.
On the one hand, individuals think that it is better to watch movies online rather than going to visit a cinema or thetres because cost of tickets and food is expensive. This means that wealthy can afford the full experience, while poor are priced out. For example, in developing countries, people are already struggling to support their families financially and it becomes quite difficult to afford entry tickets to be purchased for every single member of the family, so they prefer watching those films online without spending a single penny.
On the other hand, others argue that the film industry has a major positive impact on the economy and culture. as one of the most influencial entertainment sectors, it portrays cultural diversity and spreads awareness among individuals through visual displays. With the help of films, pivotal historical events are portrayed to help viewers understand the reality of the world. For instance, the hollywood industry is one of the largest entertainment sectors, with movies heavily promoted by celebrities. These films are primarily released on theatres because they generate massive financial benefits.
In conclusion, watching entertainment on a digital platform is undeniably convenient and affordable. However, the film industry continues to play a vital role both socially and financially.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The student addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—that cinemas are obsolete due to digital platforms, and that they remain economically and culturally vital—while clearly stating a personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. Ideas are relevant and supported with explanations, such as the mention of ticket costs and the global impact of the Hollywood industry. However, some arguments remain slightly under-developed; for instance, the discussion on economic impact could have included more specific examples beyond just mentioning movie promotions. Overall, the response meets the requirements of Band 6.5 to 7.0 in task response, adequately covering all task components with a clear position throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a clear overall progression and logical organisation. The introduction successfully outlines both perspectives and the writer's stance. Body paragraphs are structured using standard transition phrases such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand,' leading to a clear concluding summary. Cohesive devices are generally used appropriately, although referencing and conjunctions are sometimes slightly mechanical. For instance, the transition in the second body paragraph features a punctuation glitch ('culture. as one of the most influencial'), and articles are occasionally missed ('country's economics and and culture'). Paragraphing is sufficient and appropriate, ensuring the reader can easily follow the sequence of ideas, aligning well with the Band 6.5 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'paramount importance,' 'cultural diversity,' and 'pivotal historical events.' However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, including 'prevalence' used instead of 'the prevalence,' 'thetres' instead of 'theatres,' and 'influencial' instead of 'influential.' Additionally, minor repetition of terms like 'entertainment sectors' occurs. While these lexical slips and slight inaccuracies do not impede communication, they prevent the writing from achieving a higher band score, placing it firmly at Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The essay features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and varied clause structures ('Although both views have some merit, I believe that...'). However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several missing articles ('for country's economics,' 'while wealthy can afford,' 'while poor are priced out'), a duplicate word ('and and culture'), and awkward phrasing like 'entry tickets to be purchased for every single member.' Punctuation and sentence boundary errors also appear, such as a lowercase start to a sentence fragment ('as one of the most influencial...'). These frequent minor errors mean the writer cannot be placed in the higher bands, making Band 6.0 an accurate reflection of control.
