Student answer (Band 5.0)

There should not be any debate on the cinemas and online entertainment system. Both are as much important according to the need. Even with the advancement of the technology cinemas plays an important role as people comes in groups of friends and office colleagues just not to watch a movie or a show but to spend time quality time together which online entertainment system doesn't provides.

With the use of online entertainment system we used to be at home and not going out with friends and family members which effects our mind and health as we are not imvolving in outdoor activities.

For an example, I am a big fan of Marvel studios and used to watch all the new movies in the cinema. Last month there is a movie of Spiderman released and we went to Cue Cinema because it provides high quality of experience with 3D screens and the ambiance was very good which gives pleasure and relax our minds and allows us to spend time with friends. Instead of, a friend of mine can't be able to go with us and he mentioned that he watches the movie online by sitting in his room alone. This shows the difference of watching online and going out to cinemas.

Also, cinemas and theatres helps to boost our economy financially by selling tickets of high quality resolution movies.

At the end, I conclude that with the proper facilities and advance technology cinemas plays an important role economically and culturally.

And I suggest they should have include Bollywood cinema movies in Pakistan theaters and cinemas for more growth of economy.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the main parts of the task by discussing both the decline of cinemas due to online streaming and their ongoing economic and cultural importance, while also providing a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For example, the argument regarding social connection is mentioned in the introduction and illustrated through the personal anecdote about watching a Spiderman movie, but it is not fully expanded. The conclusion touches upon economic and cultural roles, and the final sentence offers a specific suggestion about Bollywood films, but overall the ideas remain basic and lack deeper analysis. According to the Band 5 descriptors, the task is addressed, but the position is not always fully clear and ideas are somewhat under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text demonstrates some organisation, but it lacks clear overall progression and logical paragraphing. The essay is divided into very short, fragmented paragraphs, and some sentences function almost as standalone paragraphs, such as 'Also, cinemas and theatres helps to boost our economy financially...' and 'And I suggest they should have include Bollywood...'. Cohesive devices are used sparingly and sometimes inaccurately, such as 'Instead of, a friend of mine can't be able to go...', which disrupts the logical flow. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the mechanical transitions do not guide the reader smoothly through the arguments. This aligns closely with the Band 5 descriptors for Coherence and Cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student uses a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for the task, with frequent lexical and collocational errors. Examples of awkward word choices include 'online entertainment system' instead of streaming services, 'spend time quality time together', and 'imvolving in outdoor activities'. There are also awkward phrasing choices such as 'high quality resolution movies' and 'gives pleasure and relax our minds'. While the meaning is generally communicated, noticeable errors in word formation and choice cause some difficulty for the reader and place this response firmly in the Band 5 category.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple and flawed complex sentences. There are frequent errors in verb tense, subject-verb agreement, and modal usage throughout the text, such as 'cinemas plays', 'people comes', 'which online entertainment system doesn't provides', 'we used to be at home and not going out', and 'can't be able to go'. Furthermore, punctuation and sentence boundaries are often misused, creating run-on sentences or fragments. These frequent errors impede grammatical accuracy and cause difficulty for the reader, matching the Band 5 criteria.
