Student answer (Band 6.0)

We are currently living in the digital era, there are some people who believe that entertainment facilities such as theatres and cinema hold no importance these days becuase people can watch movies and show on multiple online platforms now. Others might believe that these entertainment platforms are still essential due to their cultural and economical influence whereas, i personally believe that cinemas and theatres are valuabale because they provide several job opportunities to people.

Nowadays, technology is advancing day by day and we have various entertainment units at the comform of our homes. Previosuly people had to visit a cinema or a theatre to watch a movie on giant screens, but now we have a variety of high quality television available in the market, ranging from 4K to 3D TV screens with multiple entertainment platfoms, which has replaced the idea of watching movies and shows in cinemas. For instance, netfix, HBO and amazon prime provide a long list of famous movies, domumentries and tv series to choose from without going outside.

On the other hand, cinemas and theatres hold significant importance to the culture and economy of a society because they offer multiple job opportunities to people. Furthermore, these theatres provide a unique entertainment experience which we cannot get at our home. For example, when students go out with their friends or family to watch a movie in a cinema, it provides a sense of comfort and distracts them from their usual routines.

To conclude, online entertainment platforms offer multiple resourses to watch movies and shows anywhere but i personally believe that these online websites cannot replace the experience of going to an actual cinema or theatre.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—that cinemas are obsolete due to online platforms and that they remain economically and culturally important. You also provide a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion, supported by reasons such as job creation and social experience. However, some ideas are slightly repetitive or underdeveloped, such as the points regarding comfort and routine. To achieve a higher band, the arguments could be extended with more detailed examples or broader societal impacts. Overall, your position is well maintained throughout the essay, demonstrating a solid understanding of the task requirements and meeting all necessary criteria for this level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay is organized into four distinct paragraphs with a clear overall progression. You make use of standard cohesive devices and transition signals such as 'Nowadays', 'Previosuly', 'On the other hand', and 'To conclude' to guide the reader through your arguments. However, paragraphing and sentence boundaries occasionally suffer from comma splices and run-on sentences, such as in the opening sentence ('We are currently living in the digital era, there are some people...'). Furthermore, referencing is occasionally repetitive, and logical progression within the body paragraphs could be smoother. With tighter sentence construction and more varied cohesive links, the flow of the writing would improve significantly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating topic-related terms such as 'entertainment facilities', 'digital era', 'cultural and economical influence', and 'job opportunities'. There are, however, noticeable spelling mistakes ('becuase', 'comform', 'Previosuly', 'netfix', 'domumentries', 'resourses') and minor word-form or collocation slips ('show on multiple online platforms', 'economical influence' instead of 'economic'). Less common vocabulary is attempted, but inaccuracies in spelling and word choice occasionally distract the reader. To push into higher band scores, you should focus on precision in word formation and eliminate basic spelling errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

Your response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at relative clauses and conditional structures. However, grammatical control is inconsistent. There are several punctuation errors, notably comma splices in the first and final paragraphs ('digital era, there are...', 'platforms anywhere but i personally...'). Additionally, there are minor capitalization issues ('netfix', 'amazon prime') and minor structural awkwardness. While the majority of simple sentences are accurate and communication is never impeded, the frequent punctuation slips and occasional grammatical inaccuracies prevent the essay from reaching a higher band score.
