Student answer (Band 5.0)

With growing digitalization, more people find it convenitent to be able to access modes of entertainment like watching cinemas and theatres at the comfort of their choice. But, what they not realise is this is not at their best interest looking at the broader perspective.

Experiencing a vast and winsom form of art such as theatres and cinema, both not only brings the community together but also shapes the perspective of witnessing a live performances by provoking curosity and thoughts. Best way to experience cinema is to be present in the room and watch the aritsts live with first hand lights sounds and emotional outburst.

Theatres and cinemas are build across an idea of commuity. When the audiene choose to consume it through the means of digital medium, it looses its essence of what it was made for. Culturally it knits people together like how they could relate to one another, sharing the space. Moreover, on the economical front, a live exposure cannot replace an mode of online entertainment.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response attempts to discuss both views regarding the role of theatres and cinemas in the digital age and includes a personal opinion. However, the severe under-length issue (only 169 words against the 250-word minimum) heavily restricts your ability to develop ideas fully. While you touch upon cultural and economic points, the arguments remain underdeveloped and lack specific examples or extended reasoning. Furthermore, the prompt asks to discuss both views and give your own opinion, but the discussion is truncated. Because the length requirement was not met, this places the task achievement score firmly at Band 4.5.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

Your writing shows an attempt at logical organisation with paragraph breaks separating your introduction, main body points, and conclusions. However, the overall progression is disrupted by the brevity of the text and awkward linking phrases. For example, using 'But, what they not realise is...' creates a disjointed flow at the sentence level. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes inaccurate. Paragraphing is present, but the individual paragraphs are extremely short and fail to build a sustained argument. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as 'When the audiene choose to consume it... it looses its essence'. Overall, the coherence and cohesion reflect a Band 5.0 level.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt to use some less common vocabulary items, such as 'digitalization', 'perspective', 'emotional outburst', and 'economical front'. However, there are numerous spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'convenitent' (convenient), 'winsom' (winsome), 'aritsts' (artists), 'curosity' (curiosity), 'build' (built), 'audiene' (audience), and 'looses' (loses). Additionally, collocations are sometimes awkward, such as 'watching cinemas and theatres at the comfort of their choice'. These noticeable errors cause some difficulty for the reader and restrict your lexical score to Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The text contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but attempts at complex structures frequently contain grammatical errors or missing parts. For instance, 'what they not realise is this is not at their best interest' misses auxiliary verbs and prepositions ('do not realise', 'in their best interest'). There are also agreement and tense inconsistencies, such as 'Theatres and cinemas are build'. Frequent errors in grammar and punctuation can cause difficulty for the reader and obscure meaning in places. This level of grammatical control corresponds to a Band 5.0.
