Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—the decline of physical cinemas in the digital age versus their ongoing cultural and economic importance—and includes the writer's own opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the argument regarding cultural promotion is reiterated across paragraphs without expanding deeply into specific economic impacts, mentioning only briefly at the end that 'cinemas help to increase our economy.' The position is clear throughout, but the support provided is basic. Based on the band descriptors, this performance sits comfortably at Band 5.5, as it addresses all parts of the task though some ideas are under-developed and repetitive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay is organised into four distinct paragraphs with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, cohesion is frequently faulty and mechanical. The writer relies heavily on repetitive transitional phrases such as 'On the one hand, nowadays,' and 'On the other hand, nowadays,' which creates a stilted reading flow. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly with pronoun use (e.g., 'it helps to save our money' and 'they provide many content online'). Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal logical progression within the body paragraphs lacks nuance, leading to a disjointed feel. This aligns with the Band 5.5 descriptors for Coherence and Cohesion due to mechanical cohesion and repetitive transitional markers.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, but it lacks variety and contains noticeable errors. The student successfully uses common terms related to entertainment and technology, such as 'digital age,' 'online streaming platforms,' and 'applications.' However, there are persistent lexical errors and unnatural collocations, such as 'watch many content in online without pay any cost' (instead of 'access content online without paying'), 'rise economy' (instead of 'boost the economy'), and 'webseries on online.' Spelling and word choice issues are noticeable but do not severely impede communication. This reflects a typical Band 5.0 lexical profile, where the range is limited and minimally adequate with noticeable errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar and punctuation is inconsistent. Frequent errors are present, including run-on sentences and comma splices, such as '...without pay any cost it is very beneficial...' and '...webseries on online but many people believe...'. There are also verb tense and agreement slips, such as 'i belive' and 'helps to promotes'. While the meaning is generally decipherable, grammatical errors are frequent enough to cause some difficulty for the reader. This performance aligns with Band 5.0, where frequent errors occur and attempts at complex sentences are often faulty.
