Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that cinemas are no longer important due to online alternatives, and that they remain economically and culturally significant—while also providing a clear personal opinion. The writer's position is stated in the introduction and reinforced in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive, particularly regarding the benefits of OTT platforms and the social vibe of theatres. While arguments are presented, they tend to remain at a surface level with generalised examples such as mentioning Netflix and Prime Video. The reasoning is clear, but further extension of the economic and cultural aspects mentioned in the prompt would elevate the task response. Overall, the requirements of the prompt are adequately fulfilled, aligning with the criteria for Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay is arranged into four paragraphs, following a standard argumentative structure with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, which provides a coherent overall arrangement. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are employed to signpost the progression of ideas. However, cohesion is often faulty or mechanical. For instance, sentences are sometimes awkwardly linked, as seen in 'As a result . it not only provide...', where punctuation errors disrupt the flow. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and transitional phrases are overused in a rigid manner. Paragraphing is present and serves to separate the differing viewpoints, but internal transitions within paragraphs need smoother integration to achieve a higher band score, placing this response securely at Band 5.5.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating topic-related terms such as 'contemporary era', 'cultural and traditional values', 'social gatherings', and 'OTT platforms'. There are, however, numerous spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, such as 'agrue' instead of 'argue', 'threatres' instead of 'theatres', 'opionion' instead of 'opinion', 'serveral' instead of 'several', 'vobe' instead of 'vibe', and 'vareity' instead of 'variety'. Less common vocabulary is attempted, but these frequent lexical inaccuracies and spelling mistakes occasionally cause strain for the reader, although they do not entirely impede communication. This performance reflects the typical characteristics of a Band 5.5 lexical resource.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing subordinate clauses introduced by 'while', 'because', and 'if'. However, control over grammar and sentence structure is inconsistent. There are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('some human beings also said', 'some individuals believes'), incorrect preposition usage ('watch at their smartphone', 'in cheaper price'), and faulty article use ('the watching movies'). Punctuation errors are also notable, such as spaces before commas and periods, and sentence fragments like 'As a result . it not only provide new experince'. Because errors occur frequently and can occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, the grammar score is set at Band 5.0.
