Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses both views regarding the importance of cinemas and theatres versus online entertainment platforms. However, the development of ideas is limited and frequently wanders off-topic. For instance, the writer discusses remote work, online security, and personal privacy in the third paragraph, which bears little relevance to the prompt about theatres and cinemas. While a clear position is attempted in the introduction and conclusion, the arguments lack depth and the supporting examples are underdeveloped. According to the band descriptors, this performance aligns with a Band 5, as the task is addressed only partially and some ideas are tangential or unclear.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay displays some organizational structure with distinct paragraphs, but it lacks overall progression and clear logical flow. Transitions between sentences and paragraphs are often abrupt or confusing, as seen in the sudden shift from cultural and economic points to internet security issues in the third paragraph. Cohesive devices are used rather repetitively and mechanically, such as the repeated use of 'due to' and 'people want to'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, which strains the reader's comprehension. This level of cohesion and paragraphing reflects a Band 5 performance.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The lexical resource is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'digitilization' (misspelled), 'devastating', and 'technological advancements', but these are accompanied by frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'importancy', 'safe' instead of 'save', and 'beneficary'. There is also noticeable repetition of basic words like 'online', 'people', and 'entertainment'. Although the meaning can generally be discerned, the vocabulary errors cause some difficulty for the reader, placing the response firmly at Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures. While there are a few attempts at complex sentences, they are frequently faulty or awkwardly constructed, such as 'Some people argue that in the age of digitilization cinemas and theatres are no longer importancy because of online trending people want to see all the entertainments online.' There are frequent errors in basic grammar, punctuation, and article usage throughout the text. These persistent errors often cause difficulty for the reader and obscure the intended meaning, which corresponds directly to the Band 5 descriptors.
