Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that nowadays due to various technological advancements, cinemas and theatres are not being given that much importance as they used to get. It is due to the fact that individuals can enjoy several shows and programs on Internet and phones. I believe that no matter how advance the technology and internet be they can never reduce the significance of these entertainment venues.

On one hand, today most people do not find theatres much entertaining because of their work load and easy access to their own devices. Individuals do not have much time in this modern era to spend in cinemas in watching long hour movies. As a result, they find it convenirnt to scroll short videos on social media applications. Furthermore, modern era has introduced several technological devices that allow people to access entertainment from the confort of their houses. People find it time-consuming to go to cinemas to enjoy the shows they like, instead they prefer to utilize their valuable time in more convenient ways. Thus, they rather spend their spare time in their houses, utilizing their own devices. To illustrate, When a person has his own device then he can watch whatever he like to, anywhere and at any time, instead of waiting for other individuals to settle down.

On the other hand, the importanced of these entertainment venues can not be overlooked as they are a constant source of recreation. Cinemas and Theatres are still valuable because they provide families with the opportunity to spend their quality time together. In the present era, families do not have much time to spend with each other, so these kinds of places provide them a chance to strengthen their bond. Therefore, cinemas brings families together. Moreover, these places can enhance our social behaviour, as we interact with other people, we get an opportunity of sharing our thoughts and giving pur opinions on the film. As a result, cinemas are the places wgere people can become more socially capable of sharing their views. For instance, after watching the film, people can share the story-line and their opinions with their friends and companions, this increases their confidence as well.

In conclusion, although today people may have the opportunity of enjoying their private time but the time in cinemas, where families bond and interactions are forged cannot be overlooked;therefore, i beleive that the significance of theatres can never be replaced.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the view that theatres and cinemas are losing importance due to online entertainment and the counter-argument regarding their economic and cultural value. A clear position is stated in the introduction and maintained throughout the essay. Ideas are extended, particularly in the discussion on social behavior and family bonding, though some supporting points tend to be slightly repetitive, such as the repeated emphasis on having one's own device and saving time. Overall, the task is well-addressed, fulfilling the requirements for Band 7.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into four paragraphs, following a clear introduction, two body paragraphs representing opposing views, and a conclusion. There is a clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are used appropriately to link ideas, such as 'On one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'In conclusion.' However, referencing and transitions within paragraphs could be smoother; for instance, phrases like 'It is due to the fact that' and repetitive sentence openings slightly detract from a seamless flow. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, earning a solid Band 6.5 or 7.0, fitting comfortably within Band 7.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'technological advancements,' 'significance,' 'recreation,' and 'social behavior.' However, there are several lexical errors, word choice inaccuracies, and typos, such as 'convernirnt' instead of convenient, 'importanced' instead of importance, 'wgere' instead of where, and 'i beleive' with lower-case capitalization. Collocations are occasionally awkward, such as 'scroll short videos' rather than 'scroll through short videos.' While communication is not impeded, these frequent slips prevent the lexical score from reaching a higher band, placing it firmly at Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional and relative clauses. There are, however, several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as article omissions ('in cinema' or missing articles before nouns), subject-verb agreement issues ('cinemas brings families together'), and punctuation errors. Furthermore, there are basic typographical errors with pronouns, such as writing 'i' in the conclusion. The majority of sentences contain minor structural or mechanical flaws, though they rarely impede overall communication. This performance aligns well with the Band 6 descriptors.
