Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—the rise of digital entertainment and the enduring economic and cultural significance of theatres and cinemas—while also providing a clear personal position. In the introduction, the student writes, This essay will be written on argument that cinemas are way more important. The ideas are generally relevant, but some points are somewhat under-developed or briefly stated, such as the economic benefits which mention food catering and employment without deep elaboration. Furthermore, the argument regarding confidence and adrenaline could be more logically tied to cultural or psychological impact. However, the task is adequately addressed overall, earning a solid Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. However, there are notable cohesion and punctuation issues throughout the text, such as missing spaces after periods and commas (e.g., online . On the other hand, performance ,a high sensory). Paragraphing is utilised, but transitions between ideas can be abrupt or mechanical. For instance, the sentence structure in the third paragraph jumps rapidly between sensory experiences, economic impact, and personal health benefits without smooth cohesive linking. Referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly with pronoun usage like they and it. These formatting and mechanical cohesion flaws place the response at Band 5.5.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task and attempts some less common items, such as adrenaline rush, outclass performances, and production crew. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and phrasing throughout the text, including outclass performances, boost our confident (instead of confidence), and cinemantic (instead of cinematic). Repetition of certain words like cost and high is also evident. While communication is not heavily impeded and the meaning generally comes across, the frequency of lexical errors prevents the score from rising higher than Band 5.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several structural errors and fragments, such as without going out of their comfort zones (missing subject/verb connection) and cinemas gives a live performance (subject-verb agreement error). Punctuation is a major weak point, with frequent spacing errors around punctuation marks (e.g., online . On the other hand,). While the reader can follow the intended meaning, the density of grammatical and mechanical errors means that error-free sentences are not in the majority, aligning best with the Band 5.0 descriptors.
