Student answer (Band 6.0)

The development of internet has changed the way people consume entertainment. Some people argue that in the digital age, theaters and cinemas are no longer important as people can easily and readily watch all the entertainment they want online. However, others believe that theaters and cinemas are still important both economically and culturally. In my opinion i believe that online enterainment is better than theaters and cinemas.

On the one hand, there are several reasons why people consume entertainment online. Firstly, online streaming platforms allow people to watch variety of shows, movies, and television programmes easliy from their homes sitting comfortably in their couches or sofas. This is way more convenient than travelling to cinema on a fixed time. Moreover these online platforms are relatively cheap than cinemas for example one ticket of particular movie costs around 1200rs whereas in 1200rs a person can buy subscription of these platforms and can enjoy whole list of movies and shows without requiring people to leave their homes.

On the other hand, theatres and cinemas provide a different type of immersive experience which is not possible through these streaming platforms. Furthermore, the cinemas have a big screen, better sound system and ulitmate socialising experience with friends. In theaters, the artists perfom live in front oif the audience which is a whole new adventure. In addition, these industries creates employment for many people assoicated with these businesses such as actors, directors, technicians and other workers. They also contribute in local economy by providing taxes.

In conclusion, it is true that online entertainment is better, cheap and affordable to enjoy but cinemas and theaters are still important. Both are important but cinemas and theatre provide social and cultural experience which is not possible to experience at home through online platforms. In my opinion, online i better but both are important and can continue to exist alongside each other.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that cinemas are obsolete and that they remain economically and culturally important—while also providing a personal opinion. The student's position is stated, although there is some slight contradiction or wavering in the conclusion where the writer says 'online is better' but then balances it. Main ideas are presented, such as convenience and cost for online viewing versus immersive experiences and employment for theatres, though some ideas lack full extension and suffer from repetition. For instance, the economic benefits are mentioned briefly. Overall, the response fulfills the task requirements reasonably well, placing it solidly in Band 6.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear four-paragraph structure that follows an introduction, two body paragraphs representing opposing views, and a conclusion. Transitional markers such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand' are used to structure the arguments. However, referencing and logical progression are occasionally flawed, particularly in the conclusion where the writer's final stance becomes somewhat contradictory and repetitive ('online entertainment is better... but cinemas and theaters are still important'). Cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or overused, and paragraphing could be managed more smoothly. These features are characteristic of Band 6 performance.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'immersive experience', 'subscription', and 'technicians'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'easliy' instead of 'easily', 'enterainment', 'alitmate' instead of 'ultimate', and 'perfom' instead of 'perform'. The phrase '1200rs' uses informal regional currency notation. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they restrict the lexical score to Band 6, as the vocabulary attempts lack the precision and natural control required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and subordinate clauses (e.g., 'which is not possible through these streaming platforms'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation lapses, such as missing articles ('travelling to cinema'), preposition errors ('sitting comfortably in their couches'), and agreement issues ('industries creates'). Furthermore, spelling mistakes and minor structural awkwardness appear. Because the errors occur regularly but rarely impede overall communication, the performance aligns with Band 6 descriptors for grammatical range and accuracy.
