Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some people state that in present age, there is no need of going to cinemas and theatres because people can watch what they want in online while others say that going to cineams and theatres are still important in nowadays lifes for culturally and economically. In my opinion, even though we can get all the entertainment through the internet it is important to go the theatres and cinemas.

In todays world, technology is booming in various fields in our society including entertainment sector as well. Everthing can be availabe to an individual through phone with via internet. For instance, if a person wants to see a film of their favourite actor, that person can watch the cinema easily in online through their phone. In case of new cinemas, if a person wants to watch the film, within seconds after the movie released we can get that film in online without going to the theatres. We can save our money by not going to cinemas and theatres as we can get everthing what we need through online.

On the other hand, by seeing our favourite hero cinema in the theatres hits different when compared to seeing in phone through online because when we go to theatres we can feel the emotions, visuals and hype in another level. For cinema, if everyone watch the movie in websites via online it is loss for the production team.

In conclusion, Both point of views have their decision on theatres and cinemas which are correct based on the perception of people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views (online entertainment versus physical theatres/cinemas) and providing a clear, albeit basic, personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, noting economic impacts and the unique experience of viewing in a theatre, but they remain somewhat under-developed and lack fully elaborated examples. For instance, the mention of production losses if people watch online is a good point, but it is not expanded upon. The student's position is maintained throughout the essay. This performance aligns best with the Band 5.5 to 6.0 descriptors, specifically meeting the criteria for addressing all parts of the task with relevant ideas, though the development is limited.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is organized into four paragraphs, demonstrating an attempt at a logical structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by poor cohesive devices and referencing issues. Phrases like 'For cinema, if everyone watch the movie in websites via online it is loss for the production team' show awkward transitions. Paragraphing is used, but the overall coherence is affected by mechanical and repetitive phrasing. Therefore, the cohesion is somewhat faulty, placing this response firmly in the Band 5.0 range.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to convey their main ideas, but it is limited and repetitive, with frequent word-choice and spelling errors. Examples include 'cineams', 'everthing', and 'availabe'. The student attempts less common vocabulary such as 'production team' and 'perception', but noticeable errors occur throughout, such as 'seeing our favourite hero cinema in the theatres hits different'. These errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, matching the Band 5.0 lexical resource criteria.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty. There are numerous grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text, such as missing prepositions and articles (e.g., 'in present age', 'in online', 'in todays world'). Subject-verb agreement issues also appear, such as 'going to cineams and theatres are still important'. Although the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of errors is high, meaning it sits comfortably at Band 5.0.
