Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The student attempts to address the prompt by mentioning both views and stating a personal opinion. However, the response is severely limited by its length. At only 95 words, it falls far short of the 250-word minimum requirement for Task 2. Consequently, the ideas are underdeveloped and lack the necessary extension and supporting examples required for a higher band. The position is stated, but it is not sufficiently supported due to the truncated nature of the response. This warrants a band score of 4.0 based on the severe under-length and minimal task fulfillment.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response is presented as a single paragraph rather than a structured essay, which hinders overall coherence. While there are some attempts to use cohesive devices such as 'while others' and 'Because', the lack of proper paragraphing and the choppy sentence structure mean that information and ideas are not arranged logically or coherently throughout. Referencing is weak, particularly with the abrupt and ungrammatical opening and the misuse of transitional elements. This reflects the descriptors for Band 4.0, where information lacks clear overall progression and coherent structure.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student demonstrates a basic vocabulary with attempts at less common words such as 'economical growth', 'cultural developement', and 'particular country'. However, there are notable word choice and spelling errors, such as 'entrtainment', 'visible in online platforms' instead of 'available', 'belive', and 'countrys'. The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive, with noticeable errors that occasionally strain the reader's understanding. This performance aligns closely with the Band 5.0 descriptors, showing a minimally adequate range for the task but frequent lexical inaccuracies.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The student attempts some complex sentence structures, such as 'Most people argued about theatres and cinemas are not necessary...', but these attempts are frequently faulty and ungrammatical. There are basic grammatical errors throughout, including tense agreement issues, missing articles, and incorrect punctuation. The sentence 'Because, Theatres and cinema represents...' demonstrates poor control over simple and complex sentence boundaries. Due to the frequent errors and very limited range of accurate structures, this response fits the Band 4.0 descriptor profile.
