Student answer (Band 5.0)

In today's digital age, some people believe that theatres and cinemas are no longer important because people can watch entertainment online, while other argue that they still plays an important role in society.

Firstly, youngster think that being at home seeing everything on internet make them feel comfortable and easy to know the news of everything. Chilling in the room watching netflix, youtube, instgram, etc. while having coffee or some snacks. Moreover, they love to stay at home and get news on TV's and phones. If you get to know every single news online than going out to theatres are waste of time. It is more convinent and cheaper.

Secondly, other people thinks that going to cinemas makes you happy. Planing to go to theatres on sundays with family than having dinner with the family enjoying the moments and makig it memorable. theatres and cinemas makes you get socialize and can get jobs, know about the environment updates. Having big screen experience while eating popcorn. No disturbance and also no network issues.

From my perspective, today's youngster are more attached to the digital life. They don't want to experience outside life. Moreover, cinemas and theatre are important for the cultural and traditional purpose. Going to theatres and cinemas are more enjoyable, helpful, ans aslo gets good knowledge you can meet with new people and make friends.

Overall, from my perspective it is clear that everyone should go to cinemas and theatres to make memorable memories and have good time with friends and family rather sitting at home and using phones.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—the decline in importance due to online entertainment and the continuing economic and cultural relevance of theatres and cinemas—and provides a personal opinion throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the discussion on young people relies heavily on generalisations about streaming on phones and laptops ('Chilling in the room watching netflix, youtube, instgram, etc.'), and the arguments regarding the cultural benefits of cinemas lack concrete elaboration. The position is clear, but the support remains somewhat basic, corresponding closely to the Band 5 descriptors where ideas are present but under-developed and general.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is organised into five paragraphs, including an introduction and conclusion, and attempts to use transition markers like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Moreover' to signal progression. However, cohesion is frequently mechanical and inaccurate, and the logical progression between ideas within paragraphs is weak. For example, the second paragraph abruptly jumps between the habits of youngsters, watching news on phones, and the convenience of staying at home. Furthermore, referencing is sometimes unclear, and the paragraphing breaks standard conventions due to poor separation of distinct points. These features align best with Band 5, where there is some organisation but overall progression is lacking and cohesive devices are inadequate or misused.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student uses a basic and repetitive vocabulary range with noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and collocation. Words like 'convinent' (convenient), 'socialize' (used as an adjective or intransitive verb incorrectly: 'makes you get socialize'), and 'makig' (making) detract from the quality of the writing. While the essay attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'environmental updates' and 'memorable', inaccuracies in word formation and spelling are frequent. The vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey basic ideas, but these repeated lexical slips and restricted range place this performance firmly at Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences and faulty attempts at complex constructions. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('other people thinks', 'theatres and cinemas makes'), incorrect preposition use ('sitting at home'), and fragmented or run-on sentences ('Planing to go to theatres on sundays with family than having dinner with the family enjoying the moments and makig it memorable'). These frequent errors can occasionally cause difficulty for the reader and prevent the text from achieving a Band 6, fitting the Band 5 descriptor where frequent errors persist and complex sentences are often faulty.
