Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—the decline of cinemas due to online entertainment and their ongoing cultural and economic importance—and includes the writer's own opinion, though it is stated somewhat simplistically ('I will explain my views after discussing both ascepts'). Ideas are presented, such as the accessibility of Netflix and the creation of employment, but they remain somewhat underdeveloped and repetitive, particularly in the conclusion where points are restated. While the position is clear, the development of ideas tends to over-generalise. This places the response comfortably at Band 6, as all parts of the prompt are addressed, but the arguments lack sufficient depth and extension to reach Band 7.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay has a recognisable structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, which gives it an overall coherent arrangement. However, paragraphing is poorly managed; the body of the essay is collapsed into a dense block of text with only two major paragraphs, making it difficult to follow the transition between different viewpoints. Cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or misused, as seen in phrases like 'While, some still believes' and repetitive use of 'In addition' and 'Another example'. Referencing can also be unclear, such as 'these theatres can bring love in today generation'. These formatting and cohesion issues align with a Band 5 descriptor.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range to communicate basic ideas about the topic, using words like 'entertainment', 'reputation', 'employment', and 'heritage'. However, there are frequent spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'importamt' instead of important, 'ascepts' instead of aspects, 'accessable' instead of accessible, 'joufull' instead of joyful, 'employement' instead of employment, and 'unemployement' instead of unemployment. Less common vocabulary is attempted but often marred by inaccurate collocation or spelling. Because these errors are noticeable but do not severely impede the overall meaning, the response fits the Band 5 criteria.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response shows a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as 'While, some still believes that...' and 'Despite these advantages, some people think...'. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors such as subject-verb agreement issues ('some still believes', 'online platforms like Netflix provides'), missing articles ('due to availability', 'according to people will'), and run-on sentences lacking appropriate punctuation. Although the meaning can mostly be discerned, the frequency of errors causes strain for the reader and prevents the writing from achieving a Band 6 score.
