Student answer (Band 5.5)
Many people think that in the digital age, theatres and cinemas are no longer efficient as people can watch all the entertainment they want online. While others think that theatres and cinemas are still important both economically and culturally. In my view, people can watch movies online at home in their comfort zone although going to cinemas with friends or family makes that day a memory to remember.
The major advantage of watching movies, series or documentries at home in our space without intrruption of any sort.People can pause the movie if they want or have an urgent appointment at that time they can come back and resume from where they left. They can munch on snacks of their liking and sit however they want without needing to worry about how others will look.Watching entertainment at home is cost effective making it cheaper to watch. It saves our commute cost and our time.
However, there are people who think going to cinemas benefits both the economy and cultures. It makes people come out of their house and go enjoy a movie with their family.I personally love going to the theatres. It makes your experience a worth of time and money. It captures the memories worth remembering.I always go to the cinemas to watch the latest movies and for the ambiance it gives with my friends and we take lots of pictures then go to the food court and have our favorite meal and end our outing with an ice cream.
In conclusion ,I agree watching movies at home is cost efficent and comfortable for people. However, going to the cinemas makes your day worth remembering and holds memories of you with your family or friends.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—the decline of theatres in the digital age versus their ongoing economic and cultural importance—and provides a clear personal opinion. The writer's position is maintained throughout the essay. However, the ideas could be developed further with more sophisticated examples and depth of reasoning. For instance, the arguments regarding home viewing focus heavily on comfort and convenience, while the arguments for cinemas lean largely on personal outings rather than deeper economic or cultural analysis. Nonetheless, the task requirements are adequately fulfilled, placing the response at a solid Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. However, cohesion is frequently faulty or mechanical due to persistent spacing and punctuation errors, such as missing spaces after commas and periods (e.g., 'online. While', 'conclusion ,I'). Paragraphing is attempted, but the second body paragraph blends several distinct ideas—such as economic benefits and personal anecdotes—without smooth transitional devices. Referencing and cohesive devices are somewhat basic or repetitive. These issues prevent the essay from reaching a higher band, resulting in a Band 5.5.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task and communicates the writer's ideas clearly. The student attempts some less common vocabulary and collocations, such as 'cost effective', 'ambiance', and 'food court'. However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward word choices, such as 'documentries' (spelling error), 'memory to remember', 'worth of time', and 'cost efficent'. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they restrict the lexical range to a Band 6.0 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like 'Many people think that...' and 'although going to cinemas... makes that day a memory'. There are frequent errors in punctuation and spacing, alongside grammatical slips such as 'movies, series' (missing space) and awkward phrasing like 'makes your experience a worth of time and money'. Complex sentence attempts are occasionally clumsy or ungrammatical. Because these errors do not seriously impede understanding, the grammar aligns best with the Band 5.5 descriptors.
