Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the recent years, with the advancing technology and digital world enabled people's access to movies and other entertainment options more convenient. some argue that theatre and cinema are not crucial as people entertain themselves online rather than going to cinemias. I believe that they still play significant role in economic development and culture promotion.

Technological advancements made it easier to watch movies online because digital media entertainment options are more available online. By watching movies remotely we can save travell time which can be used for doing something crucial which in turn make them feel refreshed and delighted. For example, people who work whole week find time on weekends they can enjoy from home rather than to travell to long distances,As a result they may spend more time with their families.

On the other hand theatre and cinemas play a significant role in cultural and economic development of a country. This is because, people buy tickets for movies and shows from cinema which adds in economy of country which results in improvement in economic growth of the country. Moreover, the cultural value of the coutry is influnenced because many people from different cultures visit cinema which interact with other cultures. As a result culture is being promoted to different parts of the world. For instance, people from certain villages and other countries like tourist visit cinemas and they get familiar with different cultures.

I truley beleive that theatre and cinemas should be promoted so that people can entertain Government should play their role by funding theatre so that they provide better facilities to the people and promote their culture and economic growth.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views regarding the decline of theatres in the digital age versus their continued economic and cultural importance. A clear personal position is presented in the introduction and maintained throughout the essay. The ideas are generally relevant, but some are slightly repetitive or under-developed. For instance, the economic argument states that buying tickets 'adds in economy of country', which is a simplified point lacking deeper elaboration or specific examples of tourism or local business revenue. Similarly, the cultural argument mentions interacting with other cultures, but the example provided about tourists visiting cinemas is somewhat vague. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, fitting the criteria for a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a recognizable four-paragraph structure comprising an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. The transitional markers used are quite basic, such as 'On the other hand' and 'Moreover', and some sentences lack appropriate linking, resulting in run-on structures or punctuation errors, particularly in the second paragraph where clauses run together without proper conjunctions or full stops (e.g., 'travell to long distances,As a result...'). Paragraphing is present, but the concluding paragraph ends abruptly and feels incomplete. Referencing is generally clear, but the logical progression within paragraphs occasionally stumbles due to awkward phrasing and mechanical cohesion, placing this at a Band 5.5 to 6.0 range; Band 6.0 is awarded as the overall progression remains clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'technological advancements', 'economic development', and 'cultural promotion'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'cinemias' instead of cinemas, 'travell' instead of travel, 'coutry' instead of country, and 'influnenced' instead of influenced. Collocations are sometimes awkward, such as 'adds in economy of country' instead of 'contributes to the national economy'. Despite these lexical errors and typos, communication is rarely impeded, and the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'Technological advancements made it easier to watch movies online because digital media entertainment options are more available online.' However, grammatical control is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in article usage, prepositions, and subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'In the recent years', 'digital world enabled', 'culture is being promoted', 'Government should play their role'). Punctuation and capitalization errors also appear, such as missing commas and uncapitalized starting letters in sentences like 'some argue that theatre...'. While complex structures are attempted, they frequently contain errors that require the reader to re-read parts of the text, supporting a Band 5.0 score.
