Student answer (Band 5.0)

In this modern era, everyone is enjoying the digital world but theatres and cinemas are also essential for masses. Some people enjoys seeing movies at home and some are more keen to travel at cinemas to watch movies. I will personaly prefer to spend time on digital gadgets at home because of my everyday routine. We will further discuss both views in this essay.

On the one hand, some people think movie houses still should be important because of the country economy and culture. Moreover, they want to travel at movie theater with thier families on week days for enjoying outside the home. For instance, my cousine is a house wife whenever her husband takes a leave from office, they try to hang out for movie at cinemas because they both enjoy large sacreen. This can help them keep update their culture by watching movie with others. Besides this, economically they can save their home electricity.

On the other hand, those people who work at offices and they just get rest for two days in a week, they like to watch everything at home because of their daily routine. For example, i spend my whole day at office in front of computer and in public. Thus, i love to watch movies in my comfort zone at home with family. Furthermore, people think they don't need to travel outside this will cost them travel expense, cenima fees and snacking bills.

At the end in this digital era we should take advantage from it and save our money for big things instead of spending on cenimas. We can get entertainment by sitting at home without any big expense so i my point of view this will be a better choise.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views on the importance of theatres and cinemas versus online entertainment, and the student provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and relies on basic reasoning. For instance, the economic and cultural benefits are mentioned briefly through a personal example about a cousin, but this lacks broader societal exploration. Similarly, the argument regarding cost savings at home is repeated. While a clear position is maintained throughout, the ideas remain underdeveloped, corresponding closely to the Band 5 descriptor where parts of the task are addressed only partially.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is organized into four paragraphs with a basic structure, including an introduction, two body paragraphs discussing opposing views, and a conclusion. However, the overall progression lacks smooth logical flow. Cohesive devices are used mechanically or awkwardly, such as 'We will further discuss both views in this essay' and 'At the end in this digital era'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between ideas within paragraphs feels disjointed. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion requires improvement to reach higher bands. These features place the response firmly in Band 5.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive, with limited ability to express precise meaning. The student attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'digital era', 'entertainment', and 'comfort zone', but also makes frequent word choice and collocation errors, such as 'travel at cinemas' instead of 'go to the cinema' and 'sacreen' instead of 'screen'. Spelling mistakes and awkward phrasing like 'snacking bills' and 'cinema fees' occur throughout. The lexical range is adequate for the task but minimally so, leading to a score of 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay shows a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence forms, though complex structures are frequently faulty. There are noticeable grammatical errors throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('some people enjoys', 'cousine is a house wife whenever her husband takes'), pronoun capitalization ('i'), and incorrect prepositions ('travel at cinemas', 'advantage from it'). Punctuation is also weak, particularly with run-on sentences and comma splices. While communication is not entirely impeded, the high frequency of errors places this response at Band 5.
