Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—the digital alternative and the economic/cultural importance of traditional cinemas—while providing a personal opinion in the conclusion. The ideas are presented, but they tend to be somewhat repetitive and under-developed, particularly in the body paragraphs. For instance, the discussion on economic value in the third paragraph is brief and lacks specific explanation or examples. While the writer's position is clear throughout, the support remains basic and lacks the depth expected for higher bands. Therefore, this performance aligns closely with the Band 6 descriptors, as all parts of the task are addressed, but some areas require fuller elaboration and richer supporting details.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay has a coherent overall arrangement and follows a recognizable four-paragraph structure with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, cohesion is often faulty or mechanical. For example, transitional phrases like 'On one hand' and 'On the other hand' are used, but referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'both the platform views are differs from each other' and 'for that both the views will discuss'. Paragraphing is attempted, though the first paragraph functions more as a single extended introductory block with fragmented sentences. Cohesive devices are occasionally inaccurate, leading to a mechanical flow that pulls the score down into the Band 5 to 6 range. Band 5 is appropriate here because of the repetitive and sometimes inaccurate use of cohesive devices.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate basic ideas about digital entertainment versus physical theatres. However, there are noticeable word-choice and collocation errors throughout the text, such as 'It is often argue' instead of 'argued', 'most amount of people' instead of 'most people', and 'online is more cheaper' instead of 'cheaper'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'economical and cultural impact' and 'convenient and less time consuming', but inaccuracies persist. Spelling and word formation errors, such as 'travell', 'differnt', and 'paragaraphs', also occur. These limitations place the vocabulary firmly in the Band 5 category, where noticeable errors can cause some difficulty for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors that impede clarity, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('views is differs', 'cinemas and theatres are also consist') and missing articles or prepositions ('experience cannot be easily replaceable' instead of 'replaced'). Sentences often contain structural flaws, such as 'rather being dependant on what movie cinema is showing' and 'keen on cinema members'. The high frequency of errors across both simple and complex structures means that the majority of sentences are not error-free, making Band 5 the most accurate descriptor for this criterion.
