Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, people can watch almost any kind of entertainment on the internet. Because of this, some people believe that theatres and cinemas are no longer important. However, others think that they still have an important role in society and the economy. This essay will discuss both views and give my opinion.
On the one hand, there are several reasons why people prefer online entertainment. First of all, it is very convenient because people can watch films, shows and other programmes from their homes. They do not need to travel to a cinema or buy expensive tickets. For example, many people use streaming services to watch movies on their phones, laptops or televisions.
On the other hand, theatres and cinemas still have some important advantages. Ong a movie on a large screen with good sound can be much more enjoyable than watching it on a small phone screen. In addition, theatres allow people to watch live performances, which cannot be fully replaced by watching videos online. Going to the cinema or theatre can also be a social activity because people can spend time with their friends and family.
The economic and cultural importance of these places should alshermore, theatres and cinemas can help promote local culture. For example, Indian cinemas show films in many regional languages, which helps people maintain their connection with their culture and traditions.
In my opinion, although online entertainment is more convenient, theatres and cinemas are still important. People can enjoy entertainment at home, but physical venues provide a different experience and also have economic and cultural benefits. Therefore, I believe that cinemas and theatres will continue to have a place in modern society.
In conclusion, online entertainment has become very popular because it is convenient and offers a wide range of content. However, theatres and cinemas are still useful because they provide social experiences, create jobs and support local culture.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You successfully address all parts of the task by discussing both views on the importance of theatres and cinemas in the digital age, while also presenting a clear overall position. Your response includes relevant ideas, such as the convenience of online streaming contrasted with the superior screen quality, live performance aspect, and social nature of physical venues, alongside economic and cultural benefits. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed rather than fully extended; for instance, the economic benefits mentioned in your introduction and conclusion are not truly elaborated upon with specific details or examples in the body paragraphs. To move to a higher level, you need to ensure that every main idea you introduce receives full, balanced development with specific supporting details and deeper elaboration throughout the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
Your essay demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into logical sections, including an introduction, body paragraphs addressing each viewpoint, and a conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices to connect your thoughts, such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In my opinion'. However, there are noticeable mechanical errors in paragraph integration and editing, such as the incomplete sentence 'Ong a movie on a large screen' and the fragmented sentence 'The economic and cultural importance of these places should alshermore', which disrupt the smooth flow of the text. To achieve a higher band, you need to ensure that all transitional phrases and sentences are fully formed and grammatically connected, and that referencing and cohesive devices are managed with greater flexibility and precision throughout the essay.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using common terms related to technology and entertainment, such as 'streaming services', 'convenient', and 'social activity'. You also attempt to use less common vocabulary items, such as 'regional languages' and 'modern society'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and expression, most notably typographical and lexical errors like 'Ong a movie' instead of 'Watching a movie' and the corrupted word 'alshermore'. While these do not heavily impede communication, they reflect limitations in precision and word formation. To reach a higher level, you should incorporate a wider range of sophisticated, less common lexical items with accurate collocation and spelling, demonstrating greater stylistic control and flexibility in your choice of words.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You display a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like conditional and concessive clauses effectively (e.g., 'although online entertainment is more convenient, theatres and cinemas are still important'). There are some errors in grammar and sentence construction, particularly visible in the broken sentence fragments ('The economic and cultural importance of these places should alshermore') and minor structural slips, but overall, your sentences are generally understandable and your grammar rarely impedes communication. To improve further, you should aim to produce a higher proportion of error-free complex sentences, ensuring precise control over punctuation and syntactic structures so that structural errors occur only occasionally rather than persistently interrupting the flow of complex thoughts.
