Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response addresses the prompt minimally, identifying both views and attempting a personal opinion, but the overall development is severely limited. Ideas are repetitive and lack adequate support, as seen in the second paragraph where the argument about websites is stated multiple times without elaboration. Additionally, the position remains underdeveloped and lacks a clear, cohesive stance throughout the essay. Furthermore, the response falls short of the minimum length requirement of 250 words, containing only 238 words. To move up, the writer must ensure the word count requirement is met and fully develop each viewpoint with concrete examples and sound reasoning rather than relying on circular arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some basic organisation with visible paragraph breaks, including an introduction and a concluding remark, reflecting a rudimentary structure. However, there is no clear overall progression of ideas, and the logical flow is hindered by repetitive statements. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often mechanical, inadequate, or misapplied, such as the abrupt transitions between paragraphs and the informal, fragmented conclusion. Referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the train of thought. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to ensure logical sequencing between sentences and paragraphs, using a wider and more accurate range of cohesive links naturally.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for conveying basic ideas, featuring frequent instances of repetition, such as using 'numerous' and 'significant' multiple times. There are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and collocation, including 'devloped' instead of developed, 'diffrent' instead of different, and the non-standard adverbial form 'fastly'. These lexical inaccuracies and spelling slips occasionally cause difficulty or hesitation for the reader. To improve in this criterion, the student must expand their lexical repertoire, accurately incorporate less common vocabulary items, and pay closer attention to spelling and word formation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The text displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying primarily on simple sentences and repetitive patterns. Attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, demonstrated by awkward phrasings like 'It is highly debatable the growing number of people argue that'. Frequent errors are present in articles, prepositions, verb forms, and punctuation, such as missing capitals at the beginning of sentences ('in sum up') and incorrect subject-verb agreement ('There are numerous platforms are available'). These frequent errors can cause some difficulty for the reader. To progress, the writer should incorporate a wider variety of complex structures while maintaining tighter control over basic grammatical accuracy and punctuation.
