Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is said that theatres and cinemas are significant for economic and cultural purposes, while others argue that they are no longer important as people watch entertainment online in this digital age. Because of technological advancements people are able to experience entertainment at their home as per their conviniency. However, watching entertainment offline has its own feeling and in addition to that, they are also significant economically and culturally. According to me, they both are important and should remain a part of the society.
Now a days, it has become easier to watch entertainment because of the digital era. An individual can watch any sort of drama at their home as per their convinience and at their pace. For intstance, many directors release their movie on OTT platform rather than in theatres to gain profit. In such scenarios, both the OTT platform and director make profit if the movie is fantastic. However, I disagree to this viewpoint because watching movies in cinemas has its own feel and it also provides a financial benefit to the workers of the cinemas.
Theatres and cinemas build cultural values in an individual. By watching them, one can learn about their different cultures, languages and skills. It also provides an economic benefit to the people working in theatres and cinemas. For instance, people who have quit acting because of thier jobs might work part-time in theatres to continue their hobby for performing on stage. I agree to this viewpoint because they create a sustainable environment of moral values and help to provide financial aid to the people associated with them which eventually reduces unemployement.
In conlusion, digital advancements have transformed the way of wacthing entertainment however, theatres and cinemas are still important both culturally and economically. Although, it has become easier to watch entertainment online some people still prefer going out to watch the entertainment because of different energy and vibe is present. According to me , Online entertainment is significant but not the only way to prefer. I belive that watching entertainment offilne has its own benefits one hand as it helps to reduce cultural differences and increase the ratio of employement.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that theatres and cinemas are no longer important due to online entertainment, and that they remain economically and culturally significant—while presenting a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the economic benefits mentioned in the third paragraph overlap heavily with earlier points about workers gaining financial aid, and the reasoning tends to generalise without sufficient extension or specific examples. The position is evident throughout, though the expression of ideas lacks the depth and fully supported arguments required for a higher band. To improve, the writer should ensure each main point is expanded with distinct, well-analysed examples rather than restating similar concepts across paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion, and the writing is divided into logical paragraphs that each address a specific focus. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by mechanical or repetitive cohesive devices. Phrases like 'According to me' and 'I agree to this viewpoint' are used rather formulaically, and referencing can become slightly unclear, such as the pronoun shifts in sentences like 'By watching them, one can learn about their different cultures'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to structure the response, but smoother transitions between sentences and ideas are needed to achieve a more natural flow and better logical progression throughout the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, demonstrating an attempt to use less common items and subject-related terms such as 'technological advancements', 'sustainable environment', and 'cultural values'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that occasionally detract from precision, including 'conviniency' instead of convenience, 'For intstance', 'unemployement', and 'wacthing'. Collocations are sometimes awkward, such as 'gain profit' instead of 'make a profit' or 'generate revenue', and 'increase the ratio of employement'. The range is minimally sufficient to convey the message, but to reach a higher level, the writer must eliminate spelling slips and employ more natural, precise lexical choices and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The text displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and relative clauses, such as in 'Because of technological advancements people are able to experience entertainment...'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation lapses, including missing articles ('at their home', 'reduce unemployment'), awkward prepositions ('watching movies in cinemas' instead of 'at the cinema'), and occasional run-on or awkward phrasings like 'because of different energy and vibe is present'. While these errors do not severely impede overall communication, they persist throughout the response and prevent the sentence structures from achieving consistent accuracy. Improving control over articles, prepositional usage, and complex clause structures will help elevate this criterion.
