Student answer (Band 5.0)
First of all i agree must agree with both sides, nowadays every drama or movie we can watch on our phones or tv. But cinemas and theatres have a different experience. Young generation believes that anything we need is now digital, and this is also a truth that everything is now online even the food we want can order online. In context of the movies and dramas, we can watch these on netflix or prime video. So the young generation and most people questions that if we have everything in our mobiles phones digitally why we have to buy tickets for theatres or cinemas. So in this sense, the people are right but now if we talk about the culture and entertainment cinemas are also important. Watching on a big screen and with an entertaining audience is much more excellent experience than watching on a small mobile screen. Also cinemas and theatre plays an important role in a country's economy. People buying cinema tickets and canteen item have a good impact on economy. Now if we talk about cultural view of cinema and theatre, people are used to with going there because theatre and cinema culture is too old and always play an important role in entertaining people. And also an other point that mobile is an everyday used object so going to theatre or cinema to watch movies and series gives a change to there daily life roles. So this is my opinion that mobile phones are important and fastest way for entertainment but cinemas and theatre are also important

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—the digital availability of entertainment and the ongoing economic and cultural importance of cinemas and theatres—while also offering a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas remains limited and under-developed. For instance, the economic point that "People buying cinema tickets and canteen item have a good impact on economy" is stated rather than extended with specific examples or further explanation. Similarly, the personal position is somewhat unclear initially, as the writer states "i agree must agree with both sides" before navigating through the arguments. To reach the next level, the ideas need to be more fully explored, extended, and supported with detailed reasoning rather than relying on brief, generalised assertions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The essay presents some overall organisation and touches upon both sides of the argument, but there is a lack of clear overall progression. The response is written as one large block paragraph, lacking appropriate paragraph breaks to signal shifts between the introduction, the digital view, the cultural/economic view, and the conclusion. Furthermore, cohesive devices are inadequate, repetitive, or mechanical. Transitions like "First of all", "So", and "Now if we talk about" are overused to link loosely connected thoughts, and referencing is sometimes unclear, such as the ambiguous pronoun use in sentences like "So in this sense, the people are right but now if we talk about..." To improve, the writer needs to group ideas into logical paragraphs and use a wider, more precise range of cohesive devices to guide the reader smoothly through the argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary related to the topic, such as "economically", "cultural", "entertainment", and "canteen item", but there are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and collocation that can cause some difficulty for the reader. Examples include phrasing like "the food we want can order online" (missing passive/modal structure), "entertaining audience" instead of "audience", "canteen item" instead of "concessions" or "snacks", and "gives a change to there daily life roles" instead of "break from their daily routine". Spelling and word-form errors, such as "there" instead of "their" in "there daily life roles", also appear. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical range and demonstrate greater precision in word choice and collocation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing displays a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences and basic coordination. Attempts at complex sentences are often faulty, featuring frequent errors in punctuation, verb forms, and articles. For example, sentences often lack necessary punctuation or run together, as seen in "Young generation believes that anything we need is now digital, and this is also a truth that everything is now online even the food we want can order online." There are also errors in subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as "cinemas and theatre plays an important role" (plural/singular mismatch) and "gives a change to there daily life roles". These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader. To improve, the writer needs to incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical structures while maintaining better control over basic sentence mechanics and agreement.
