Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses all parts of the task, discussing both the decline of physical venues and their ongoing economic and cultural importance, while also including a personal opinion. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed, particularly in the body paragraphs where points about online sources and cinema experiences are stated rather than fully expanded with robust explanations or specific examples. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the response falls short of the minimum two hundred and fifty-word limit, which impacts the overall completeness of the task. To reach the next level, the writer needs to extend their arguments more thoroughly, provide concrete examples to support their views, and ensure the word count requirement is satisfied.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Paragraphing is used to separate the different views and the personal stance. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty and mechanical, with abrupt transitions between sentences and ideas, such as moving from the second body paragraph into an incomplete sentence fragment. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, making the logical progression between some points difficult to follow. To improve, the writer should employ a wider and more accurate range of cohesive devices and ensure smoother transitions between sentences to create a clearer flow of information throughout the essay.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student uses a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for the task. There are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word formation, such as writing "technical ara" instead of technical era, "canimana" instead of cinema, and "meaning ful" instead of meaningful. These errors sometimes cause difficulty for the reader. While the writer attempts some less common vocabulary items, inaccurate collocations and spelling slips restrict the precision of the expression. To achieve a higher score, the writer must expand their lexical range, pay closer attention to correct word forms and spelling, and use vocabulary more naturally and accurately in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside some attempts at complex forms that are often faulty. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles, incorrect prepositions, and faulty subject-verb agreement, such as "theaters and cinemas are still economically and culturally have its benefits" and "online source are more convenient". These frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader. To move up, the writer needs to demonstrate a greater variety of complex sentence structures and improve grammatical accuracy by reducing frequent errors in basic sentence patterns, plurals, and verb forms.
