Student answer (Band 5.0)

The importance of cinemas and theatres is for entertainment purpose which is no longer important as before in modern era because all of these are now available online. I completely agree with this view. However, theaters and cinemas has vast significance on economy and culture.

In this digital era, entertainment is more accessiable online. For example, people have the chance to pursue whatever they want to watch at anywhere and with whoever . Concequently, when they have the option to get entertainment with comfort , there is no prominence of cinemas and theaters.

On the other hand, it is quite true that cinemas and theaters have a crucial role in economy and culture. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response addresses the task only partially, presenting a position that is briefly stated but insufficiently developed. While the writer attempts to discuss both views regarding the role of digital entertainment versus the economic and cultural importance of cinemas, the ideas remain limited and lack adequate support or explanation. Furthermore, the response is notably truncated and fails to meet the minimum word length requirement of 250 words, which significantly restricts the depth of the arguments presented. To achieve a higher band, the writer must fully explore both prompts with extended reasoning, concrete examples, and a fully completed conclusion that meets the required word count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text displays some overall organization with an introductory paragraph, body paragraphs addressing different viewpoints, and a concluding attempt, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or repetitive, such as the frequent reliance on basic transitions like 'For example' and 'On the other hand'. Paragraphing is used to separate ideas, but the abrupt ending due to incompleteness disrupts the structural flow of the essay. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the mechanical use of cohesive links prevents the development of smooth logical progression throughout the response.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items such as 'prominence', 'significance', and 'consequently', but these are accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice and spelling, including 'accessiable' instead of accessible, 'A immense' instead of An immense, and 'sold tickets' instead of ticket sales. These lexical inaccuracies and spelling slips cause occasional difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted lexical range that is insufficient for more precise and natural expression.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures. While there are some attempts at complex sentences, they are often faulty, featuring frequent grammatical errors in subject-verb agreement, plurals, and prepositions. Examples include 'theatres and cinemas has vast significance' where the plural subject does not agree with the verb, and awkward structural phrasing like 'entertainment is more accessiable online' combined with missing articles. Punctuation errors and incomplete sentences toward the end of the essay further constrain grammatical accuracy. Frequent errors cause noticeable difficulty for the reader.
