Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response addresses the task partially, touching upon both views regarding the decline of theatres versus their economic and cultural importance, alongside a concluding personal opinion. However, the development of ideas remains limited and under-developed. For instance, the second paragraph mentions technological devices like smartphones and laptops and touches on ticket prices, but these points lack clear extension or specific supporting examples. Similarly, the counter-argument regarding youngsters and social media promotion in the third paragraph is vague and repetitive. While all parts of the prompt are acknowledged, the lack of fully elaborated arguments and a consistently maintained clear position keeps the response at this level. To improve, the writer should ensure each main idea is thoroughly explained with relevant examples rather than merely stated.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays some overall organization with a clear four-paragraph structure, including an introduction, two body paragraphs discussing opposing views, and a conclusion. However, there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are frequently inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, as seen with transitional phrases like 'To begin with,' 'Although, having such innovation force,' and 'At last,' which do not logically connect the sentences. Paragraphing is used, but the internal logical flow within paragraphs is disjointed. For instance, the transition between discussing devices and ticket prices in the second paragraph feels abrupt. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to improve the logical progression between sentences and use a wider variety of cohesive devices more accurately and naturally.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'contemporary era' and 'innovation,' but these are accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form, which may cause some difficulty for the reader. Examples include spelling errors like 'comentators' instead of 'commentators' and awkward word forms like 'first release in cinemas' instead of 'are first released in cinemas.' Collocations are also occasionally unnatural, such as 'view of the movie.' To progress further, the writer should expand their lexical range, pay closer attention to word forms and spelling, and practice natural collocations appropriate for academic writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences and basic complex forms. Attempts at more complex sentence structures are often faulty, featuring frequent grammatical errors that can cause difficulty for the reader. There are noticeable errors in subject-verb agreement, such as 'there are several new technological items are launched,' and incorrect verb forms following conjunctions, as in 'instead of watching at cinema' and 'due to which, they use mobile phone.' Punctuation and article usage also show frequent inaccuracies. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to increase the variety of sentence structures while significantly improving grammatical accuracy, particularly regarding verb patterns, plurals, and articles.
