Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the task only partially, and importantly, it fails to meet the minimum word count requirement, falling short at 238 words. Furthermore, the essay is incomplete, breaking off abruptly with dangling transitional phrases ('In conclusion, Although' and 'In conclusion,') without providing a final synthesized viewpoint or a properly concluded position. While the writer attempts to discuss both views regarding the importance of cinemas and theatres versus online entertainment, the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For example, the economic and cultural points regarding theatres are stated generally with repetitive phrasing, such as 'contributes in economic development' and 'promote culture in different international platforms,' without sufficient elaboration or concrete examples. To reach a higher level, the writer must ensure the word count requirement is fully met, develop all aspects of the prompt thoroughly, and provide a fully realized, complete conclusion that articulates a clear personal position throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is some basic organization present in the essay, as the writer attempts to separate the two opposing viewpoints into distinct body paragraphs and use introductory signposts like 'To begin with' and 'On the other hand.' However, there is no clear overall progression due to the incomplete nature of the response and abrupt ending. Cohesive devices are sometimes used mechanically or inaccurately, such as the dangling conjunction 'While,' which incorrectly introduces the second sentence of the introduction. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final conclusion fails to form a proper paragraph, leaving thoughts fragmented. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, for instance with pronoun usage like 'help to save their money.' To improve, the writer needs to ensure logical progression from introduction to body paragraphs and through to a fully executed, cohesive conclusion, using cohesive devices smoothly without mechanical repetition.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic ideas about entertainment platforms, featuring words like 'imperative,' 'flexibility,' and 'affordable.' However, there are noticeable lexical errors in word choice, word form, and spelling that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Examples include 'modren' (modern), 'online' used as a noun phrase ('in online'), 'felxibility' (flexibility), 'theartres' (theatres), 'standrad' (standard), 'entraiment' (entertainment), 'Netflex' (Netflix), 'popolar' (popular), and 'enywhare' (anywhere). The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items, but these persistent spelling and morphological errors prevent the response from achieving a higher score. To improve, the writer must focus on accurate spelling, appropriate word formation, and precise lexical control when incorporating advanced terminology.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer demonstrates a limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside poorly controlled attempts at complex sentences. There are frequent grammatical errors in verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions that can cause difficulty for the reader. Examples of errors include 'cinemas and theatres are important or can watch' (faulty coordination and missing subject), 'helps peoples to improve' (incorrect pluralization of a non-count or collective noun use), 'cinemas and theatres also plays' (subject-verb agreement error), 'platforms are contributed' (incorrect passive voice structure), and 'can expensive' (missing adjective verb or copula). Punctuation and article usage also show persistent flaws, such as missing articles before singular countable nouns ('with affordable price'). To achieve a higher band, the writer must produce a wider variety of complex structures with greater accuracy, ensuring correct subject-verb agreement, reliable verb tense control, and proper handling of auxiliary verbs.
